Default settings are generally fine but change governor type to 'Gov Store'. If you are using HV servos you can increase BEC voltage to 8V, for standard servos 6V is good.

Make sure it's connected to the ESC programming port using the supplied lead (you cant connect through the throttle lead like most ESC's) If you still have issues update the programming box to latest firmware from HobbywingDirect web site.

What Rodney said.. 45% is far too low to govern on the HW ESC, that might explain why you had issues. About 65% is as low as you would ever want to go. 'Gov ELF' actually works ok, all you have to do is allow enough time for the RPM to stabilise before lifting off (but 'Gov store' is better)...

Thanks for the feedback Rodney. I hope it will be some use even if all it does is give someone a headspeed to set up on the first flight. From there adjust to personal taste.

    General Align 3GX Setup Series

The US rules dont apply here in the UK thankfully, but I've read enough to know that they do apply to all RC planes, not just multirotors. The language used may be confusing but it does apply to helis (and fixed wing planes come to that).

This is one of the reasons I dont own a single flybar heli! Flybarless is the only way to go IMHO. Good luck with it anyway, I cant offer any advice on flybar setup though, I've never set one up.

The soft start is fixed duration on the 50A V3, you cant adjust it. I have one on my Chase 360 and the soft start I consider to be perfect, one of the best around. Sure it takes several seconds to get up to speed but that's how a soft start is meant to work.. As for the RPM fluctuating. What %...

    600 My T-Rex 550 Rebuild

Bear in mind if you havent already that the 2,000 CHF is for airframe and blades only. This isnt the sort of heli you would want to 'cheap out' on as far as electronics and motor etc is concerned, so the airframe cost is just the starter. I'd guess another 3,000 CHF to kit it out with good...

Yeah, the Velos is a beast, two motors, two ESC's four batteries, what a machine! Not something you can build on a budget though!

There is software available but you need either the programming box or the Bluetooth wireless interface gizmo to enable the ESC to connect to your computer. The V3 ESC can be stick programmed though it's a lot easier if you have the box. The default settings are configured for helis and have...

    Hello from the Ozarks

Welcome to the hobby and to the forum Jim! +1 on what Tony said. If it's a buddy box fault then you should be able to replicate it on the ground. If you have a few flights under your belt then maybe it's time to drop the buddy box anyway. As long as your friend is with you he can always grab...

You can get different RPM out of the MrMel calc depending on what you put in, 3400 sounds a bit on the high side. What are the input parameters for your heli?

All this tool is trying to do is to come up with a target headspeed that will suit various flying styles for different sizes of heli (which was the subject of this thread). So it's purely what RPM you want, not how to achieve it. What kV motor/gearing/battery cells/throttle curve etc you need...

I knocked up a little calculator in Excel that works out a suggested headspeed based on flight style and blade size... See what you think:

    General Today's flights

Hi Rodney, Hope you dont object to me jumping on the back of your thread with a few 'today's flights' of my own. Had a decent day at the field today, I arrived late so missed the other guys but got eight flights in. It's not often that i add a new stunt to my repertoire but today I found...

450 X3 Throttle Curve (No Governor)

There are lots of settings that might lead to inaccurate RPM, the pole count of the motor is one variable, plus of course the gearing. I've never used the iKon gov so cant be much help, sorry. The Castle ESC has a decent governor but you would need the Castle Link dongle to set it.

Good luck with the maiden.. Do make sure that the gyro compensation and control inputs are all working in the correct direction. Those things are #1 cause of crashes on maidens (well that and dumb thumbs!)

450 X3 Throttle Curve (No Governor)

Your head speeds are too low for a 450. If you want to fly 3D then you would want to be up around 3000RPM. For sport flying a bit less but not much less. 2000 RPM is more like what you would use on a 700 size heli. I cant help with the iKon governor, i always use the ESC governor purely for...
