500 ALZRC Devil 420 FAST - build log

I started the build last might. It's coming together nicely but there were a few little areas that needed extra though or attention. The fit of the tail boom was the biggest issue, it looks like when the 380 boom was 'scaled up' to 420 size they increased all of it's dimensions, so as well as...

    General Heli led lights/flight time.

Tony is right, they use next to nothing. If they are 300mW then all 6 together will only use 1.8W... Compare that to your heli motor which according to your figures uses about 200W on average. Rounding it up you would lose about 1% of flight time, which is less than 4 seconds... i.e. forget it.

    General AR 9020 Problem

Is that a standard bind plug? if could just be the photo but it doesn't look like it has the normal wire loop between the ground and signal pins, it seems to have a connector or something on the end where the wire would normally loop round? see attached:

    General AR 9020 Problem

Jim, If the battery is fine and you have tried different ESCs and different receivers and you cant even get the bind LED's to flash on any of the receivers, then I'm at a loss. The only 'common denominators' would appear to be: The battery (which you have said is ok) The bind plug maybe? The...

FBL Gyro Microbeast Plus vs Bavarian Demon 3X

FWIW, on the Spirit if you use one of the supported brands of Tx, you can do all the setup right through the telemetry interface on the Tx. Kinda like Mikado's Vcontrol system. The MSH Brain has this capability too. If you don't have integration support on your Tx that's not an issue because...

FBL Gyro Microbeast Plus vs Bavarian Demon 3X

IMHO any modern FBL controller needs to have self level/rescue functionality to be considered 'top drawer'. The Microbeast does have that capability but you need to pay for the 'Pro Rescue' upgrade (about $100 ?) on top of the basic price. The BD 3X doesn't have this feature, so personally I'd...

    General AR 9020 Problem

Jim, If you have tried with a few different receivers then it's looking like it may be an issue with the supply of power coming from the ESC. Have you got another ESC that you can try for testing purposes? I guess the other possibility is the battery; what battery are you using and are you sure...

    General AR 9020 Problem

I take it that you are doing it in the correct sequence.. i.e. you are powering on the receiver first, with bind plug inserted and with the Tx turned off. The lights on the receiver should then start to flash. Only then you you power on the transmitter while holding in the bind button.

    General AR 9020 Problem

If all you are trying to do is power up and bind the receiver, then 'no' you dont need to program the ESC. All the ESC is doing is supplying power to the receiver though it's BEC.

500 ALZRC Devil 420 FAST - build log

A correction on the missing manual.. While there is no manual in the box there is one to download from ALZRC's web site, so I've got that printed off and I'm ready to get building. No point rushing though because the servos and motor and stuff wont be here for a couple of weeks.

    Micro What is this?

It's a head button. It serves no purpose other than something to put your thumb on so as to slow down the rotor after landing, which is only something you might want to do on big helis where the rotors spin for ages. On small helis it's purely cosmetic.

    Batteries Partial charging lipos

In that case no problem, your charger has more than enough power for those batteries.

    Batteries Partial charging lipos

Jared, Yes, it's capable of a maxumnum of 10A OR 100W ... whichever limit it hits first. A 6S battery charges at 25.2V, so the charger hits it's 100W power limit at 3.96Amps. You can set 10A in the charger but it can never get there because it hits the power limit first. You could only ever...

    General AR 9020 Problem

Jim, The labelling and polarity of the connections on the AR9020 (with it's two sets of connectors stacked one atop the other) is VERY confusing. Are you 100% sure that you have the throttle and bind plug connected to the correct ports and with correct polarity on the throttle lead? I also have...

    Batteries Partial charging lipos

Jared, What size packs are you charging? A 100W / 10A charger is ok for charging single small to medium size packs but will slow you down on large batteries or if charging multiple batteries in parallel. It's the 100W limit that will hold you back on anything higher than 3S . For instance on a...

    Batteries Partial charging lipos

No, LiPos dont have any memory.. In fact it's better for them to not quite fully charge. You should get a longer life if you charge them to (say) 4.1V per cell instead of 4.2V (at the expense of slightly less flight time). Having said that, 25-30 minutes is plenty of time to fully charge a...
