450 Building some Align T-Rexs and get read for questions.

You got me confused.. As far as ESC's having 'magnets''' nope, ESC's don't have magnets, none of them do. Only the motor has the magnets. Regarding binding. For Spektrum at least the receiver will bind with whatever throttle position you set. It should be closed for safety but if it's not the...

FBL Gyro Align 3GX Flybarless System

V5.0 on the 3GX for me was terrible. I actually had the 3GX working quite well on a few helis on V4 firmware. I 'upgraded' to V5 and ruined them all!. The main problem was that the head gains seemed to be much lower in V5. I turned the adjuster pots all the way to max which got my 500 fling ok...

You have my sympathy. It's exactly the same here, perfect conditions all week while I'm at work then howling wind every weekend.

Dont forget the programming card if you get the YEP, they have quite complex programming options so you really need the card.

That's true, the 450 is tight for space and the YEP is quite wide so it won't fit under the battery tray like the Align ESC does, so installation is not as neat. I've used a lot of YEP's and generally had good results. They are so cheap it's not the end of the world if you do occasionally get a...

+1 on the YEP ESC. They are excellent. Hobbywing ESC's are another good option but you cant beat the YEP for bang for buck. As for why it smoked.. As Tony said, you shouldn't really leave a motor running for a long time on the bench (as there is no flow of cooling air) but i suspect there might...

450 Building some Align T-Rexs and get read for questions.

Yes, that's exactly how I do it. Collective at mid stick and use throttle hold to set throttle to closed. I never worry about if I have any positive pitch as I figure if signal loss was going to happen then it could happen any time, upright, inverted, in a banked turn, you just can't tell. If...

Then if you lose reception and the throttle goes to 50% power the heli will potentially fly away and come down who knows where? Also if you lose signal when on the ground (maybe you inadvertently turn the Tx off) the throttle will go to 50% the heli will spool up and potentially lift off...

    700 Kds agile 7.2

Yes you are right, she handles the wind really well. The Agile 7.2 a big heavy lump of a heli which helps a lot, plus the Vbar does a great job of cancelling out the wind. The ability to fly in high winds has been much needed these last few months because it's been almost constantly windy here.

If the throttle goes to full power when you turn off the Tx then you have the failsafe set wrong. To fix this you need to re-bind. When binding always make sure that throttle on the Tx is fully closed as it's during the bind process that the failsafe position is learned. If the motor spins the...

Here's the Agile flying earlier today with the new ESC fitted.. (very windy)

    Spektrum DX9

I'll take the much improved tail hold of HH over the need to fly the tail more. I honestly don't have to even think about it anymore, just apply rudder to keep the heli pointing in it's direction of travel. Because I've never used rate mode on a heli HH just seems the natural way to fly them.

    Spektrum DX9

Yeah, i know exactly what you mean. I started flying helis a little over 4 years ago but had flown fixed wing for many years before that. I used rudder quite a bit on my fixed wing so didn't find using HH too difficult to adapt to, but you are dead right, you have to be on the rudder all the...

    Spektrum DX9

Good thinking, it could well work to at least reduce the kick a bit. The tail will tend to kick (tail left, nose right) when you hit hold because the torque comes off the main rotor so the tail doesn't need to apply counter torque anymore (but you probably figured that already). If you used...

    Spektrum DX9

Just use a gear>gear channel mix activated from the hold switch that adds whatever % that you want. Curious on why you would want it though?

    700 Kds agile 7.2

My my own stupidity i managed to blow the YEP 120A ESC in the Agile, no great loss because I got it cheap and it was only a temporary fix while i got hold of a 160A ESC. I ended up going for the Hobbywing Platinum 160A HV V4. This is a brilliant ESC, very similar in spec to the Kontronik Kosmik...

450 3GX is driving me crazy

Align appear to have given up on FBL controller manufacture and gone with the BeastX on their combos. I never tried the Gpro but I've seen mixed reviews, some say it flew fine, others had problems, but you tend to get that with any FBL as a lot of the problems are user error.

450 3GX is driving me crazy

No, that's not quite right. Both the AR7200BX and 7300BX have been discontinued. The 7200 is replaced by the AR7210BX but no direct replacement has been announced for the 7300 yet. FWIW.. The 7200, 7300 and the new 7210 can all work with HV servos, no problem at all. The only difference on the...

450 3GX is driving me crazy

I have to admit that I also found the 3GX very 'hit or miss'. I've used a few of them in the past and usually they performed 'ok' once you got to grips with the not very intuitive setup.. But sometimes they would be nothing but trouble, from tip-overs to sloppy gains, to pitch up in flight. You...
