General my first trex 450 sport build

The castle Talon 35A was specifically designed for 6S 450 size helis: Castle Creations | Talon Series Controllers So personally i have no doubt it will be just fine. Like I said, with the higher voltage and lower kV motor amps comes down to about half of what you would see on a standard 3S...

General my first trex 450 sport build

Yes, the 1800kV motor is going to need a 6S battery. It will run on 3S but too slowly to give decent performance. The 35A ESC should be fine if you are running 6S. The higher voltage 6S motors pull less amps. A 35A on a 6S setup can give the same power as a 70A ESC on 3S... which is far more...

The ordinary Turnigy 'Blue' batteries are fine too. I use the 40C ones in many of my helis. They aren't the very best performing batteries in the world, but unless you are a very hard flyer they will be fine. They are more than good enough for all I can throw at them.

    Beyond My Hover

The action cams on a head mount aren't so bad but you are right Phil in that their biggest weakness is that they are wide angle so unless you fly close the heli looks very small. If you used a zoom then the shaking would become unacceptable and even if you had auto stabilisation you would never...

700 big birds need big power

Yeah, I think that's a good deal. The Hobbywing V4 ESC's are the best around. They match the Kontonik on spec but at a fraction of the price.

General my first trex 450 sport build

Like I said, there are two different versions of the 460MX motor. It comes in 1800kV or 3200kV the first is for 6S and the second for 3S... which do you have? Pulse generally have a reputation good batteries but if it were me I'd just buy cheap ones from Hobbyking or similar. As a beginner the...

General my first trex 450 sport build

The 460MX comes in two types, the 1800kV version (for 6S power) and the 3200kV version (for 3S power)... it's absolutely critical that you know what motor you have. If you power the 3200kV motor with a 6S battery the ESC and motor are likely to go up in smoke. You would be far FAR better just...

Nice work Phil, the 550 looks like it's really well sorted.

    General Working on helis

Nice well organised work station there Rodney. Mine is a mess by comparison, I just cant seem to keep my workplace tidy either at home or at work. I've got a messy mind i guess. I often spend longer looking for tools than i do actually doing the job:rolleyes1:

    General My first soldering attempt

Dino, Those need a bit more work. Big bullets can be hard to solder, the thick wire sucks the heat away so you need a powerful iron preferably with a 'chisel' shape tip rather than the pencil point ones that are used for fine soldering. It looks very much like you need to get more heat into the...

    Micro Blade 180 CFX

That must have been something to see:eek: It makes the tail blade and grip coming off on mine mid-flight seem quite tame!

700 big birds need big power

Personally I'd go with the version with the internal BEC. It's a very powerful BEC (more power than the Castle BEC Pro) and having the internal BEC tidies up the wiring no end. The BEC pro will come in for another project I'm sure. I'm running two of the 160A versions on my Goblin 770 and Agile...

    I'm Here...Now What? ;-)

+1 on the pictures. A selection of good detailed photos might also give the members here to spot any potential issues with the build or setup, which can otherwise slip through the new even for the best of heli builders. When you get to setting up the flybarless controller, one thing that you...

FBL Gyro What's the Difference Between These 2

I've not used one but as i understand it the technology is exactly the same, just a smaller case. The adapters solve the servo problem so you should be good to go.

FBL Gyro What's the Difference Between These 2

Your problem would be that the servo ports are the type for tiny 'sub micro' servos found on micro size helis. Standard servo plugs as found in a 450 heli won't fit.

700 big birds need big power

The SAB manual is actually pretty good when it comes to guidance on motors, ESC's and batteries (page 21): One important thing to watch for is motors shaft length. the Goblin 700 needs a 34mm long shaft, 6mm diameter. You can also use an 8mm shaft with a suitable pulley but you wont be able to...

700 big birds need big power

Sounds good, the top of the motor sticking out is just an aesthetic issue, some like the look, personally it's not for me but the motor itself is supposed to be a beast. I'm running a Scorpion in one of my Goblins and a Kontronik in the other. If you do want to keep the motor inside the canopy...

700 big birds need big power

The Vertigo motor's are supposed to be real powerhouses. They are apparently the same motor under the skin as the KDE range. The only thing to be aware of is that they are very tall motors (about 75mm tall for the 700 size). With the Goblin to fit it in you have to cut out a hole in the canopy...

700 big birds need big power

Is that the Goblin 700 that you are looking for batteries for? Most people fly them on two x 6S 5000mAh. They are seperate batteries that you wire up in series, so that results in 12S 5000mAh. (when you wire in series voltage (cell count) increases but mAh stays the same). The Goblin 700 will...
