    Batteries 2cell battery question

They are a lot smaller in capacity, so that will hit flight time significantly. Also and maybe more importantly they are only 20C so their peak current rating is 0.35Ah x 20C = 7Amps. Your old batteries were both larger and higher C rated: 0.6Ah x 25C = 15A 15A down to 7A is a big drop and may...

    General Altering Pitch Range

As for reducing the total range. The best way to do that where possible is by using shorter servo arms (or by moving the balls in if the arms have more than one hole). This has the advantage of increasing the mechanical advantage of the servo so it needs less torque to operate and also gives...

    Noob at the hobby

Welcome to the forum TazinKy. Ther DX6i is a popular transmitter so you should be able top get some help with it. I'm not so good with Drones unfortunately, planes and helis are more my thing.

    700 Goblin 700E

I'd not write off all Scorpion motors. I've got a few of them and they have been no problem at all, I think you just got unlucky.

    700 Goblin 700E

Sometimes the magnets aren't glued properly in the factory. I've had motor's fail the same way but not a Scorpion. Lubricating the bearings cant really be related to this unless the bearings collapsed first causing the magnets to hit the stator, but I see no evidence of that if the pictures. If...

    700 Goblin 700E

The missing magnets gives the game away. The magnets must have come loose and jammed the motor. Once the motor is jammed and cant turn the current will go through the roof and it will burn out within seconds. This could have happened to any motor, it's nothing to do with the motor size. Had...

    700 Goblin 700E

That's nasty!.. lucky there was no other damage. A 4035 should have been enough for sports flying. Do you know the Kv of the motor and what pinion pulley you were using, it's possible that it may have been over-geared, or maybe the timing was not set correctly in the ESC?

    500 XLPower XL520 from Banggood - review

I contacted the XL520 designer 'Raka' about the splitting tube and he pointed me to the new part that he's now made available to get around the problem, it's a tiny alloy clamp that fits around the end of the carbon tube: I'm quite happy with my fix but it's good to see that XLPower are...

General I saw this and had to share it, ha ha ha

Yep I've 'folded' a wing or two in my time

    500 XLPower XL520 from Banggood - review

Thanks Admiral! The last small job I could do before the servos arrive was to make up the tail pushrod. It consists of the usual paltruded carbon tube with threaded rods which are inserted and glued into each end of the tube. I had a small problem with this because when I screwed the rods in...

    500 XLPower XL520 from Banggood - review

Talking of lack of ESC and servos, I've had a change of build spec. In the interest of keeping the price down hopefully without sacrificing anything in performance I've gone for the following: Cyclic servos: GDW DS590MG Tail servo: GDW DS595MG ESC: Align RCE-BL100A (Hobbywing Platinum 120A...

    500 XLPower XL520 from Banggood - review

Last weekend was too windy and/or raining to get any flying in so i had plenty of time for building. The airframe is now basically complete. When i do these reviews i always have good intentions to methodically photograph each stage of the build but once I get into it I can never be bothered, I...

450 trouble getting screw to come out of blade grip/feathering shaft

Agreed Uri, I was just thinking that with a butane torch on a small 450 feathering shaft it would be quite easy to inadvertently put much too much heat in? FWIW for smaller screws if I need it i use the tip of a soldering iron. A hot air gun works on larger parts. It's hardly ever needed with...

450 trouble getting screw to come out of blade grip/feathering shaft

I'd really recommend that you get yourself a feathering shaft wrench Uri, they are very handy little tools. If you use one it really should need any heat because you can get more purchase on the shaft/screw and no possibility of damaging the shaft. PS.. if using a heat source as powerful as a...

As long as the bearings slide over the shaft ok then is should be usable

    Power Supply's HP DPS-600PB B 575W question

PS.. another risk of having the individual PSUs switched and if you are using two PSU in series is that you might accidentally leave one off. If you do leave one off then the charger still works (but with 12V input rather than 24V), current still passes through the 'off' PSU, but presumably...

    Power Supply's HP DPS-600PB B 575W question

Chris, the switched AC lead would work just as well in the field. In actual use I found all that the extra switch added was an extra switch to operate without actually providing any benefit. Once you turn off the AC then the PSU is off anyway! I've had the DPS-600PB setup for years any it's...

    Power Supply's HP DPS-600PB B 575W question

When I first built my dual DPS 600PB supply I added a switch in a similar way. It worked as advertised, but I ended up removing it though because I found it a bit pointless. It was easier and safer to have the switch on the AC input side, and you already have such a switch on the wall...

450 trouble getting screw to come out of blade grip/feathering shaft

Are you 100% sure that there are no thrust bearings? That would be very unusual and i dont think would work, or at least not for long. Sometimes the thrust bearing is located in-between the two radial bearings rather than on the outside, so you may have missed it. The radial bearings come grease...

Servos Replacing servos for Trex 500

I always put quite a bit of grease in. In high speed bearings over-greasing can cause the grease to overheat, liquefy and run away, but that's not an issue in servos.
