What Did You Do Today???

Most of the ones that I hear about are either weather created or accidents. The last major wildfire that was near me was started by a welder making a new fence for a ranch out here. And I have heard of a LOT of them that were started from lightning. In some cases, dry lightning which is a little weird to see when you can see it.

Oh, and the Braums (dairy restaurant here in Oklahoma) just had a major fire due to bales of hay that had gotten wet, started to decompose, and ended up creating enough heat to catch on fire.

Yeah unlike Hawaii we don't get lightning that starts fires. And the beer bottle in the sun theory just doesn't sway me either. And come to think about it, when there's no forest management over there, one spark from a power line can start a blaze of biblical per portions as well. So you guys are %$#K%D... Oh and hey bails spontaneously combusting,, WILD! Stay safe!!!

Going to fly a different ESC on my Trex 450 Pro tomorrow. I hope.... I'm doing flight time testing. Stay tuned...

A few years ago I made some fireworks for a friends party. His daughter said,, as we arrived, "the pyro maniacs are here!. I replied "we are pyro technicians, not pyro maniacs.".. Pyro maniacs start destructive fires and get off on them on many levels"... The crowd went wild! HA! LOL!!!

Any way, I didn't get to fly today because I was working on a neighbors 2004 Mercury Mountaineer for days. Seems Mercury is out of business and parts are scarce. Even if you can get the parts, their all after market and from one brand to another, the precision sucks! I'm used to working on Honda's for the most part. And with genuine Honda parts, I don't have these damn nightmares. The parts fit perfectly evert time.. I did manage to solve the problem and lucky for my friend I did. He wouldn't be able to get a safety check for the vehicle and that means its curtains for it..

Now it's on to the coolant leak. I want to say its going to be piece of cake. But you know how that goes right.. At least it's on the top of the motor and in the front. My back should be able handle to it.

Yea, most of the after market parts are cheap Chyneez junk!!! I used to work at a body shop specializing in Hondas. They were a breeze to work on back then.

I heard a similar tale about fires in France, the Pine cones self combust when the temperature gets to a certain point! Also, people throwing cigarette butts out of the car window whilst driving down the auto-route and finally disgruntled individuals that had applied to be firefighters and had been rejected started them deliberately!!! There was a curious case of a scuber- diver being found fully kitted out in a treetop - he had been scooped up by one of the Canadair planes that take water from the sea, the poor man

Should've replace the the thermostat housing too;, still leaks! DOH!! Darn plastic parts!! Again with Honda; this crap wouldn't happen.. Sorry its just 35 plus years of working on cars. The Japanese; in my opinion, make the best vehicles for the buck when it come to common sense reliable transportation. ....................................... Common USA!!! What the @#&%! ..............

Depends on what you buy. My older Dodge Cummins powered trucks... I have clocked pretty close to the million mile mark. Been towed 4 times... Started driving them in '96.

Wow almost a million miles.. That's like two trips to the moon and back. Boy you guys on the mainland can really rack up the miles.. It would take a hundred years to get that here.. ha!

As for the rust problem here, check out the photo of the wiper transmission I changed two years ago... Totally rusted out to the point of failure. (yellow ovals) Their both after market but their not the same design. The old one on the top is rusted threw on every weld. The new one on the bottom has no welds like that except on the motor mounting plate. (Red small ovals) So I coated it and the whole unit with 3M rubberized undercoating. Then I sealed the seam where the motor plate meets the cross member with some of that aluminum duct tape. (White striped area)...

It's not over yet. the wiper arms didn't fit the newer different after market brand trany.. DOH!! Soooooo I had to carefully bore out the wiper arms splines so they would go on all the way and lock into place. Whew, scary, I'm not used to modifying NEW PARTS so they fit. Wonder what that does to the parts warrantee.....

Ok on to the coolant leak.
I replaced the thermostat housing and that solved the problem. There was indeed a leak in the upper seam of the unit. You see the unit is made from two parts. The upper part and the lower part. The two are (I believe) sonically or if you will, radio waved with a microwave frequency to weld the two together. After time, and all the heating and cooling, the seam starts to leak. Photo # 2112 red oval..

Note the red rust stains in the interior. That's what gave it away.. See the rust stain on the outer seam? Bingo! That's the leak...

My neighbor is as happy as a mynah bird in a palm tree. Now he can get her legal with a Safety Check and then his mission continues, nice! Good for him; I'm glad...

Hopefully I can fly tomorrow with the light winds.... I like light winds. Except the hot humidity that come with it............>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hey guys, on a different note, I'm going to shortly be looking for a optical scope for my Ruger 10-22, 22-LR. Rifle. My peepers aren't what they used to be, ha!

Question is; what would be better? A red dot sight or a telescopic cross hair scope for this gun?? I'll be shooting in the day so I don't need IR capability.. At least not yet. LOL!! What do you guys think?

With a telescopic scope, you get the advantage of the magnification which would be useful if shooting at distances, how much help will depend on the magnification level ( I'd go with an adjustable one if I were going that way ). Those would also bring with them an increase in light gathering which could help in early morning or evenings, how much help would depend on how big front lens is.

So the advantage of a scope would be seen at distances... That doesn't mean the red dot sights don't have their advantages, typically in speed of acquiring the sight picture. Since the red dot doesn't have an magnification, you can shoot using both eyes much like using iron sights. Often they also have coatings which can also help with the clarity much like shooting glasses can.

A scope is a great asset, even more so with old eyes. My Zeiss has an adjustment front of the eyepiece to clear things up.

10/22? What do you need to know? Here is a custom unit I built. KIDD adjustable trigger set at 2 pounds, Tacsol XRing billet receiver, shrouded alloy barrel, and a Gemtech suppressor.

Last pic is a custom unit (HEAVY) SS bull. Now it has a 3x9x45 Leopold, Magpul stock.... And yea, the barrel is now threaded for the suppressor. Trigger is custom around 2.7 pounds.

I was going to get some ammo today and while I there I wanted to check out some scopes and guns.. But we had a problem with the navigation system. It turned out to be operator error. (we think).. There was and issue with the touch screen calibration but we recalibrated it and so far so good. But by the time we figured it out, the store was going to close soon so maybe tomorrow.

Boy I got to say, there's no comparison between the old Omega Navigation System I grew up with and this super high tech satellite system... If I don't know where I'm going, and the GPS system is down for any reason, I ain't go'n!.. Not on this rock... Once you've used a good nav system, there's no look'n back...
