Opinions On This Subwoofer

I am looking to add some richness to my audio system in my truck. Years ago I was into car audio systems but have no clue about the quality of stuff now. I used to own Fosgate and Orion products but sold them off many years ago. They were top notch. The last thing I had, about 5 years ago was a power acoustik PA1200 and two Sony P5 10" subs. That stuff was alright. The PA amp was pretty good. Alas it has been sold off years ago. The only thing I have left is some wiring and a Fosgate Punch 120 aII amp. All I want to do is add a little low end to what I have factory in the truck. Right now I'm looking at this subwoofer which looks good and can handle what the amp can put out.

Simple question is has anyone here had any dealings with power acoustik audio equipment in the past 5 years or so?

FYI: I am not looking to play music for people 2 blocks away. I am not trying to vibrate quarters off my hood...LMAO!!!!!!

Oh no. I'll never put that much power in there. That's just plain stupid. I work in too much noise to do that. When I was younger I tried but didn't have enough money for the equipment.

Dyno tests show it to put out 1000w RMS at 4ohms. That's what I'll be wiring it at for now. If I get another sub, which I may not, I can wire it at the same and get more sound volume...we'll see. However, I'm going for quality of sound and fullness. NOT SPL.

On my band equipment... it all ran at 8Ω .... I also never ran car stereo's below 4Ω when I was setting them up either since it worked the amps so much harder at 2Ω or less.

I used a 700w amp on two 18" speakers, 500w on a pair of 15" mids and another 500w on the horn tweeters. I used them in clubs, bars and even outdoors ( a little weak for outside but they still covered a few acres well enough ).

For home stereo... I don't see the need to exceed much over 500w. For a car/truck... a couple of hundred watts should be plenty. I'm more interested in the precision of the sound than the amount of air I can push... 90-95 decibels or higher is going to start to damage your hearing.

It's not so much sounding old... as hearing ringing constantly .... ( something 15 yrs of running sound for rock bands may have had something to do with ). Basically, I've listened to way too much over 100db sound for too long and still pay for it.

@rdsok OSHA states that you should wear hearing protection at 85 db or above. Where I work, we use large fans (200hp) which create very high db. Sometimes we have to wear earplugs and muffs. Some of those sound systems can produce sound levels above 150 db. That's insane.

I'm trying to put my radio in this truck and this has got to be the most difficult and painful install I have ever experienced. A 2008 Ram 1500 stripped down (ST) model. No extras, no power anything. It does have cruise control though. I bought a $13 harness from Advanced auto and it wouldn't work, the wiring was different. I bought a harness from best buy and it seems I need an interface box to use that one. I'll be returning the harness and running wires from the battery to power the stereo and forego any harness adapters. I hate these newer vehicles. There is just too much to them that causes people like me to rip their hair out.

Definitely do not run directly from the battery. All you should need to do is get some small spade connectors and just wire it into the factory plug.

True. Didn't think about what I was saying...LOL! Well, one wire should be powered at all times and the other switched. Just look at this crap. The new plug for my stereo is to the right.
