I'll have to reduce my caffeine in take an hour or two before I start these. Lol

They look a lot better IRL they stand quite proud so they will show through the top coat and capture the weathering wash.

Very hard work :)
I wonder if thick gel super glue would do a good job on those?

Went for a remaiden with the new head and blades. And things didn't got too well. She wouldn't lift off until full collective was applied.
I made the noob mistake of not checking the pitch. So after some head scratching it was time to take my camera man home.
I've just finished setting the pitch up ( 12° not 6.5°), so weather permitting we will try again tomorrow.

I'm going to do some work on the mechanics later I want to turn the ESC around and move the motor Wire's to the the rear of the frame this will give me better access to the battery cable.

V5 rivets.IMG_20140317_194716.jpg

After some research I found out that talc can be mixed with the PVA to thicken it up this has made the rivets hold there shape.

Sorted the pitch out and turns the ESC around. I've added some yellow tape to the tips of the main blades for visibility.

very nearly had a disaster this morning, I took off and all seemed well for the first few seconds until the heli gave a strange kick.

i managed to land her with no other damage.

All damage id now repaired and she is ready to fly again.

i'll check it over later Tony. They were old gears, probably the original set that came with the kit, i cant remember changing those. i have changed the bevel gears a few times when the tail has come down hard.

Below is a shot of the equipment that i use to apply the rivets the bottles are what vaping liquid come in and the needle cap is for filling atomizers with e-liquid, the needle caps can be purchased from most vaping stores and are cheap £0.75 ($0.50), the needle caps come with a small bottle (10ml) when purchased and will fit most e-liquid bottles.
The glue for the rivets is 2 parts PVA 1 part talc, the talc helps the PVA to keep its shape and stops it spreading out while drying.

Test flight #3

The tail held well under hard pitch pumps and the heli felt pretty stable. Ive upped the gains on the gyro a bit as the heli felt very loose on decent, this has made it a lot more locked in.

Ive going to put a few more flights in this week to fine tune the 3gx but over all im happy with the performance.

Seems to fly really nicely.
Those skids look HUGE! :)

The skids are for a trex 600, i had them laying about so thought they would be good to keep the larger tail blades away from the ground.

Im planning on heading out to the field again in the morning (no video tomorrow).

some more testing and tuning with the T450, and a bit of fun with the protos and T150.

ive added a few more rows of rivets (its a slow process).

I wouldn't recommend them as training gear, I tried them because I couldn't get 500 skids there and then. And they vibrant on 450 when its running a HS of around 2800 but they seem OK at lower HS around 2200.

I've just been strapping a couple of lipos to the bottom of the Heli for ballast.

I've just got to wait for the wind to drop (12mph gusting 29mph), its forecast the same until Monday morning. I don't want to do any more work on the fuse until it's been test flown.

I ended up getting a test flight in with the ballast attached (366g) to the heli, the heli flew surprisingly well. Ever thing was fine until there was a gust for wind and the nose would turn into the wind, to try to cure this i have removed the home made tail blades and replaced them with modified protos 500 tail blades (waiting for the weather to test again).

I did another dry fit of the mechanics in the fuse (got a bit carried away putting parts on), to measure the rises for glueing.

Are you flying in Rate mode or HH mode on the tail? Rate mode, it's common for it to weather vein.

im flying in HH tony, ive tried rate mode and really dont like it.

The heli was holding in 8mph winds but when there were gusts (12mph) it turned into the wind, i ran 3 HS (2000 80%, 2200 90%, 2400 100%. all approx) none of them made any difference.
The protos blades have a wider chord and are a fraction longer so im hoping they fix it.
