Scale OH-6A "Cayuse" (450 size)

Yeah most of the mods are done to the fuse. Tail needs some more work, some shaping and the hard corners rounding off.
Going to try to get out tomorrow and do some more testing on the mechanics, increase the HS to see if the tail holds better.

woke up to another package.

The head looked black in the photos on ebay so im not too happy with that but it has a different design to the other head which i prefer.

the blades that came with the head are much narrower that 3D blades, so im hoping this reduces the torque on hard pitch input (along with increased head speed).

I really like the blades and think that they will add to the scale appearance if the heli until i can get hold of some Spin scale blades.

Hi Dan, I've used the same CopterX blades on my EC145 with a four blade head, they did reduce the torque but I still had to use larger tail blades to maintain enough tail authority.

what tail blades did you use Admiral? i have some kbdd protos blades and ive also got some trex 150 blades that have damaged tips.

Ive had a slight set back with the T tail, the support rod has come unstuck from the md500 tail section (i think i forgot to scuff that end of the rod before glueing). So i think i will be reworking the tail, locktight and setting up the new head tonight, i may start marking rivet line (im not looking forward to that).

I used a set of Tarot 500 Tail blades which did the trick the tail had heaps of authority. I had to thin the shank down a bit to get them into the tail grips and that concerns me, I have been considering replacing them with a four blade tail rotor, that is one of my on hold projects at the moment.

Is the 4 blade tail more scale for the model?? and what is it?

Ive got the head on and have set it up. looking to remaiden mechanics over the weekend if possible (quite high winds at the moment).

Thats gonna look awesome when you get the body on.
I'm so tempted to build a scale model, but its not at the top of my list yet :D

morning Lee. i had the 450 laying around and had been thinking of doing a scale build for a while, and ive got the protos and 150 for 3d.

ive made some tail blades this morning, hoping the wind drops a bit so i can test them out.

structural panel lines added, these lines will have a row of rivets on either side of them.

IMG_20140315_110919.jpg

markings for single rivet lines will be put down after double rivet lines have been added.

Im going to use PVA through a needle tip, ive been playing with the consistency of the pva and think ive cracked it

well the rivets didnt work very well, as they dried they spread out, so ive removed them with some scotch bright and tried again, this time using 100% PVA. Its quite hard to get flowing, but once flowing they go on quite quickly.

I will see how this batch dry, if they spread out again i might have to think about getting some micro balloons to go in the PVA.

does anyone know anything about these micro balloons, there not something i have ever used.

Just checked the rivets they are going to be fine with neat PVA, I'll try to post some pictures later.
