I would like nothing more than to tell you to set up a qav500. But I know that your funds are limited. So I suggest a dji 450. You can iether buy just the frame for $30.00 or. Get the kit witch includes everything you need except the FC for $190.00. That's everything. Motors, esc's, everything. This is going to be my next quad. Heck if you really want to splurge, you can get one with a NAZA GPS for about $589.00! Mind you the FPV gear is extra! Lol here is a link.

Get one of these little Syma's Tony. I've crashed into ceilings, chairs, walls, tables, you name it . . . Absolutely can't be destroyed 
This inexpensive little thing is a great help for those learning orientation, as there is no fear of hurting it . . . even better than a simulator. Added bonus is the minor 3D it does. Besides, your kids could fly it (and probably show you up).
Oh, did I say $34.95 plus $14 shipping.

What do you want it to do Tony. This will determine which one to get. Something to throw around and learn on? An FPV platform? Cheap and cheerful or top quality?
I have some files here for some quads that i could cut out for you on the CNC machine for next to nothing. You would just need to by the arms.

i am sorry i know it depends finances but for the money a qav 500 frame kit with the fm-4008 and 18 amp plush esc's is right around 450 dollars i say if RCH is gonna have an official quad why not get 1 that will be versatile start with just flying it and add fpv later and for tony's OCD it would be a clean job wiring it up.. lol

I'm not that big of a fan of those X or + quads like that. Just too plane. and lets face it, I'm a CHEVY guy and I will NEVER own anything that says F450 on it lmao. But i"m wanting a quality quad, something that will last, looks good, and will be respectable with the RCH Logo on it and known as the RCH Quad.

I would really like one of these, and I may get one, but I need something that will carry a camera such as the gopro or the like.
Lee, I"m looking for something that is quality, looks good and will last. I would like to save money when I can, but I want something quality. I think one that has a built in PCB for the motors and ESC's would be the right one. I plan on doing a little FPV with it when I get a system and it would be nice to have one that will do some flips and such, but that is more motors and the FC than anything. I just want a nice platform that is clean. I was looking at the black sheep one that was posted on the forum, but when I sent them an email, they had to be soem of the rudest people there are. No help, just a reply of "you should get what you want". So, the black sheep one is out because of poor CS.

Not sure how this helps us find a quad lol. I like the QAV500 and it's in the running. I will NEVER run plush ESC's. Hobbyking junk from china IMO. After damn near burning my house down with their 200a ESC that failed as soon as I hooked it up because the heat sink was laying on the 3 motor connections, never again will I buy electronics from them. But, the kit that Lee has does have some good motors and ESC's on it if I remember correctly.
Lee, post up yoru specs of your quad and some links for me.

I have been searching around, and I think the TBS Discovery is the one that best meets all of the things that I want in a quad. That price tag is pretty hard to swallow though...

I'm also thinking about using this money to build something bigger. I love big planes and have always wanted one. Just one more thing to decide on lmao. Or should I say, just one more thing to sit on the shelf. With the plane that I'm thinking about, that is going to have to be one big ass shelf. But, I would like a quad, and I think the quad is cheaper. If it's not, then I'm getting the plane... decisions decisions.
Just something I noticed with those flat designs when I was at the hobby shop. The area to mount things was great. The problem I saw is they dont take a crash well. The entire frame was busted up and non repairable. After talking with the guy at the hobby shop that seems to be the trade-off. So each crash you will be buying a new frame.
I have zero experience with quads so my comments are just observations I'm not an expert by any stretch of what breaks and what holds up. The platform I saw was all busted up the arms were fine. I don't recall which brand of frame it was. Whoever owned it dropped it of for repair and did a lot of fpv. I'm only repeating what the hobby guy told me.
