Setups FPV Thoughts

To be quite honest I think you are better off saving and getting at least a Predator.
For $80 difference it is a far superior unit.
The teleporter has much lower resolution screen, the all in one camera and recorder is a nice gimmick but will not give you the recorded quality of a Mobius or Gopro.
I started with the Predator kit and upgraded to the Sony 600tvl super had camera.
Sony Super HAD CCD 600TVL Super Mini Camera 2.8mm Lens D-WDR OSD FPV

That's a good price for that camera. Would make a great hat cam.

So anyone deal with or have GoPro's or Cgo cameras?
Thoughts on them?
I was looking at the CGO1 and the CGO2 and found the CGO1 for like 50 bucks.

I know I know save the money and get a real FPV setup :)

Just curious if anyone has tried either

Gopro and Mobius have a slight but noticeable lag when using "live video" for FPV.
When flying an airplane nice and high up where you have plenty of reaction time no problems, I fly my AXN with video out from the Mobius.
When you are flyin crazy fast about a foot off the ground between trees you can cover 2 to 3 meters and hit something before you even know it's there due to the delay.

Ok so let me ask the fpv guys this.
Other than the obvious advantages range, loosing the LOS flight, and flat out fun, was it
Very difficult to get used to fpv flight and do you feel you are a better pilot due to fpv?
Did you find any disadvantages?

Also goggles or screen. What did most of you start with and why did you end up with the grand finale

I have the Fatshark Dominator video goggles and I love them. The first few flights, it took me a bit of adjusting. I had to move the goggles around on my face to get them into a comfortable position. Once I had them comfy, I had no troubles at all. "Do I think I am a better pilot due to FPV?" No, I dont think so...but it sure is fun!!!

There are advantages for using goggles and advantages for using a viewing monitor. The goggles are amazing because you definitely get the FULL experience. The viewing monitor is awesome because you can start your flight, line of sight, then look down to your monitor to fly FPV. Then if you get into trouble or you just want to look up at your plane, you can simply do that and not have to wait for your eyes to adjust. Take your goggles off while flying probably isn't recommended because you have to allow your eyes to adjust.

Curious
Can the mobius be setup for FPV?
I know there is a lag possibility but I am just curious.
The more I see FPV the more I want a decent setup
but I like to ask questions...sometime too many :)

Yes it can. There is a cable that you can buy to allow plugging the mobius to the VTX unit.

I use the Mobius my AXN and there is a slight delay.
Not an issue on a airplane when you have the whole sky to fly in.
On a MiniQuad where every split second counts it would be a major problem.
The lag is estimated at 200ms.
If you are travelling at 10m per second (watch my math, you will see this is not fast) your delay puts you 2m ahead of where you think you are.
10m per second x 60 = 600m per minute.
600m per minute x 60 = 36000m per hour or only 36kmh.
Most of these little quads are capable of well in excess of 36kmh so you can now see the problem. :)

Ok I am getting closer on this FPV thing :)
However I see many different people using different frequencies.
For example 1.3 ghz, 5.8 ghz...and so on.
What should I be reaching for and why?
Obviously the 5.8 band is compatible with wireless cams and such
but how is the distance?
What band will give me the expected FPV experience and not get jammed up
by someones "devices" yet yield a good video result?
I am not one that will be flying out to great distances and since I am just starting
I do not expect that I will go much further than about 1000 feet in any one direction.

5.8Ghz is the standard.
Antennas are small, less chance to get damaged.
Better fit for small 250 quads.
To get good reception, range/strength is increased by buying better antennas.
1.3Ghz is better for penetration through trees etc, but the antennas are much bigger.

Best set up for a mini quad.
5.8ghz 600mW ImmersionRC TX
Spironet Antenna.

Yep thats what the majority of people are using for multirotors.
The guys flying planes FPV, tend to use 1.3 or 2.4(with UHF Radio)
They can fly further due to longer flight times, and they have a lot more real estate on the aircraft for electronics.

Ok I am posting this as more of a guideline than a purchase option.
I have been steadily looking at separate components and in this option
I realize the antennas probably are the not best but let me have it :)

Also I noticed something on a YouTube video that has me curious.
On a guys quad he had 2 antennas.
One circular and one that was Y shaped.
The circular one was mounted in the read pointing down the Y
antenna was on top.
Can someone help me understand why?
In the same breath if both are being used for FPV how do they hook up? :)
Here is a link to the quad in question

The v antenna is from the RX not the VTX.
That package will depend on what you are going to be looking through.
For a Screen its a good starter, but for goggles, depending on which ones, you won't need the VRX in that package.
