FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

Phil, The graph is a good idea but unless I'm still misunderstanding something it doesnt seem to correlate with the settings you said that the flight in the video was using. To quote what you said earlier: And you said that you set it mechanically so that 100% travel = 12 degrees pitch? So...

Micro Official Rc-Help Trex 150 Thread

Tony, she seems to be flying nice. My Trex 150 has the Microheli frame too but the MRS board packed up shortly after fitting the new frame so it's never seen any action since. Rather than throwing more money at the Trex I ended up picking up a Hobbyking 'Assault 100' (which is just an Hisky...

ESC Just got this baby for the 450L!

I seem to be drifting that way.. I have a HW 160A V4 on my KDS Agile 7.2 and a 50A V3 on my KDS Chase 360. I like the way the ESC's work so much I've just got three more (arrived today as it happens), another 160 and two 100A. Why do i like them?.. Most gentle and smooth slow start I've...

FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

Good that you had it covered Phil. I think Jeti's -100-+100% approach is actually more logical, if the option was available on my Tx I'd have it that way too.

FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

Phil, I think I misinterpreted your pitch curve. I used to Spektrum which uses different % values (0 to 100%) compared to the Jeti (-100 to +100). That makes all the difference! But in that case it does explain why we can hear the throttle and RPM rising and falling.. You will be flying on the...

600 Uri's Big bird build journal

Personally if it's the same price elsewhere I'd cancel the Helidirect order and buy it from where has it available. it's out of order that they showed it as being in stock when you ordered then didn't even tell you that it wasn't available post order, it shouldn't have taken a phone call to find...

General Does anyone have a 74" 3D plane???

For planes '3D' is a type of flying that involves sustained flight with the wings stalled and relying on prop thrust for lift. So 3D planes need lots of thrust, lightweight, low wing loading and huge control surfaces with big throws that will be effective at very low airspeed and when stalled...

FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

My advice for what it's worth would be to use a straight line 'idle up' throttle curve at about 75% straight line accross the board. Use throttle hold to start and stop with soft start enabled on the ESC.. It makes no logical sense on an electric heli to use the collective pitch stick to start...

Tony, I'm sure you meant to type 'throttle curve'.. A flat pitch curve will of course give you a fixed pitch heli, which would be no fun at all.

FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

It looked fine to me Phil. If there is even the slightest breath of wind you will always get some up/down 'bobbing' which is caused as the wind blows over the rotor disk. To be honest it's also usually 'pilot induced' to some extent (we all do it) but you can reduce this by having a gentle...

    How To Embed Videos

Phil, I fixed the video for you. The problem was that you used was a youtube search as a link, not a direct url for the video. If you take the direct url for your video from Youtube (which will look like this: 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOfdfR_xE3A') and just paste it in the thread, it...

FBL Gyro T-Rex maiden with Spirit Pro (at last!)

Hi Phil, Looks like the 550 is steady as a rock, good work! As for the embedded video, the problem was that the link you used was a Youtube search string, not a direct link to the video. You need to copy the direct url link then use the 'Insert Video' link to embed it in the post . The video...

Micro Official Rc-Help Trex 150 Thread

Interesting to see that I was not the only one who had take a dremel to the head to get the feathering shaft bolts out! In my case the slot didn't work so i had to cut the grip in half. This is a good example of what i was saying about it being a nightmare to work on! Good to see it flying fine...

Micro Official Rc-Help Trex 150 Thread

Tony, I hope you have better luck with the Trex 150 than i had. Mine was a total nightmare to be honest. Not only was it tricky to fly but it was also very fragile and incredibly difficult to work on. The final straw for me was the MRS main control board packed up (very common fault) and the...

More new crazy stuff from the government!

I'd be careful jumping to conclusions on that one. The press are reporting it as if it was a confirmed drone strike but I'd take it with a huge pinch of salt at this stage. The pilot apparently reported that he hit 'something' that he thought might be a drone, but flying at 200mph and...

    450 X3 trouble shooting time

Yes, that's standard on motors with multi-strand windings. what's a bit difference in this case is the solder has wicked quite far along the wire making it 'unbendable'.. Usually the solder only covers about the last 10mm or so of the wire.

ESC Scorpion vs castle creations ESC's

I'm sure if Scorpion put their name on them they will be decent ESC's. Only thing I'd be unsure of is if using on a heli how good the soft start and governor function would be. For fixed wing I'm sure you couldn't really go wrong.

    450 X3 trouble shooting time

That could easily have been the root cause of the problem. If the wire got over-bent at the point where the wicked solder ends causing some of the strands to crack then all the juice would have flowed down the remaining strands. The remaining wire strands would eventually overheat and burn out.

    Flying today.

Thanks Rodney, The wind was actually worse earlier in the day which was when I (stupidly) chose to re-maiden the little Blade 180CFX. Despite the wind I did get a safe and uneventful flight out of the little Blade which I was really happy with as I know with these micros you can often end up...

    Flying today.

Well to be precise it wasn't today, it was Sunday. The weather broke, the bit of snow we had on Saturday melted, so I got out with a few of my helis. It was breezy so really only any good for the big stuff but I got seven flights in. Here's the last flight of the day with my KDS Agile 7.2. This...
