General Gaui or Goblin? That is the Question

I dont have a 500 anymore but I'm sure that you couldn't safely use 470mm blades without doing a stretch. To find out the max safe blade length rotate the read until the main blade and tail blade grips are at their closest possible position (likely to need several rotations to find that point)...

General Gaui or Goblin? That is the Question

Yeah, as Tony points out the G420 is close to the rotor size of a Trex 500 (which uses 425mm blades), but the G420 being a stretched version of a smaller heli is lighter than the trex 500 and uses a smaller battery and smaller servos etc. The Trex 550 is a much bigger heli all round. Heli size...

General Gaui or Goblin? That is the Question

Cool, looking forward to seeing the new heli, always nice to get a bargain! FWIW the 420 is nowhere near the size of your 550 (it's less than half the weight of a 550). It's virtually the same heli as the 380 but with bigger blades.

    General Upgrading my radio

Also factor in the cost of replacement receivers and possibly new FBL controllers if you move to a different brand. After you build up a large fleet of planes and helis it becomes a very expensive job to change brands due to the cost of receivers. Even if you dont have a big fleet you may have...

General Gaui or Goblin? That is the Question

A 550 and a 700 make a good pair because they both fly on the same batteries. You would need different batteries for the G420, i think it would be more logical to stick with the 550 but I know logic doesnt rule when it comes to buying helis, I'm a good example of that with more helis than i can fly.

General Gaui or Goblin? That is the Question

SAB have just brought out a stretched version of the 380 with 420mnm blades.. called unsurprisingly the Goblin 420. I'm not sure if it replaces the 380 or will be sold alongside it. For my money this would be the better bet because the stock 380 is a bit of a 'porker' and the larger blades will...

    Tri Quanum Trifecta Tricopter

Surely you wouldn't need a different motor? Just swap two of the motor wires over as per any brushless motor?.. plus use a opposite hand prop, obviously. FWIW the pictures on Hobbyking show as I suggested, opposite hand props on the two fixed motors: PS.. I now see what you are referring...

    Tri Quanum Trifecta Tricopter

I've got a Turnigy Talon Tricopter, it flies pretty well and the pivoting rotor gives nice 'snappy' yaw response. These days I rarely use I prefer helis but it's fun non the less. Normally on a tri you would have the two fixed props turning opposite to each other. The tilting prop can go either...

    500 Gaui X5 Build

That's a slick looking heli. Looks like the maiden flight isn't far away, good luck (not that you need it I'm sure)

PS.. Here's a tip. The 600 Pro sits quite low and the tail blades tend to catch the ground if you fly off grass so damaging blades and sometimes stripping gears. To fix this all you need to do is swap the front landing gear from the 550 with the rear landing gear from the 600. Because the 550...

Nice collection! So looks to me like a 600Pro, 550 Pro, 500 (EFL?), 450 (Pro?) and 450L ? How do you like the 600? The Trex 600 Pro was my first big heli so i have a soft spot for it..

    700 My New T-Rex 700X Build

Yeah, it was a shame about the crash, it looked like a really nice plane. it is part of the hobby but that doesnt make it any easier to take when it happens. As for the fan.. Mainly based on my own personal experience, I have 5 Hobbywing ESC's with the same fan connection. The Hobbywing manual...

    New and learning

If you want GPS/altitude control the Skookum SK-720 Black edition should be on the list too. I'd give the Align APS a wide berth though. It's very obsolete technology by modern standards and I've read a few horror stories as well as seen first hand a big Trex 800 camera ship fall out of the sky...

Good point an the Demon (3SX), though it is a lot more expensive. FWIW the AR7300BX doesn't have rescue or stabilisation (and it's discontinued now anyway). The new AR7210BX has these features but you need to pay a quite large fee for the software update to enable them (about $100).

Yes, the Gpro is the flybarless controller (FBL). The best value controllers today that have rescue and self leveling stabilisation are the Spirit / Sprit-pro (from Flybarless units - Spirit System - Tomáš Jędrzejek) or the new Brain2 which you can buy in the UK from RC-Hero...

    700 My New T-Rex 700X Build

I've never heard of RC model insurance that covers your own accidental (crash) damage. Standard RC insurance as i have from the BMFA covers only 3rd party damage (i.e. damage to other people /property). If that guy has found an insurance company crazy enough to offer 'fully comprehensive' RC...

    General Hobbywing ESC...HELP

As the others have said; this is almost always due to not having the throttle calibrated so that the ESC is not seeing a fully closed throttle so does not arm.

    Off Topic Chit Chat

I also used to run RAID arrays but these days I dont see the point. I just use an SSD for boot drive, a conventional HDD for data and another HDD which i have set up to create backup images weekly. Back in the day I also used a water cooled rig with peltier thermo-electric elements that had my...

    Batteries ZIPPY Compact 5000mAh 6s 60c Lipo

I'm still using my Zippy and Turnigy batteries. They have done very well. Many are over three years old with hundreds of cycles and although some of these older batteries are starting to show their age in voltage sag under load they haven't puffed at all and are still usable. Like with any brand...

    700 My New T-Rex 700X Build

The others I've seen route the three wired through the hole in the top of the ESC mount then bend the wires in a 'U' turn, like this: Alternatively you could route the wired around the side rather than through the hole in the ESC mount.
