I've had good luck with the Spektrum parkflyer RXs. They actually seem to have similar range to the AR600.

Its going to be a Build-Off isn't it? Lol. But anyways, I don't like building my own planes because I'm afraid of flying wooden planes. I always get nervious with them and crash them. I do like ARFs though!

Also, avoid BananaHobby jets!! They don't fly good at all!!

In my opinion, Parkzone makes the best planes. I have 4of them amd they all fly very nice!! Dynam planes fly very nicely but the electronics are cheap. Multiplex also has nice flying planes but they are way overpriced. Hope that helps!!
