Other Traxxas TQi Bluetooth issue

I can't connect to my galaxy S8+ with the Bluetooth module. Does anyone e else have this issue? I have contacted traxxas about this but haven't received an reply yet.

This is a new one to me. Didn't even know they had BT on these things. What does it control or monitor?

Looks like you just download the app, open the app, push and hold the button on the back of the Tx until it flashes, then follow what is on your phone and it should connect. Will more than likely have an update when you are done so just update it and you should be good.

So you have it connected? In the first post you said it would not connect. Make sure the truck and Tx are on and that they are both bound.

Does your Android see the device when you are in the bluetooth menu area? If so, it should prompt you for a pairing code if it can't automatically connect after you've selected the device in the BT menu... then you'd use the pin code they mention in the manual for the device.

I know this is an obvious question, but is your bluetooth on in the phone? If it is, turn it off, restart the phone and turn it back on. If that doesn't work, try connecting something else that is bluetooth, like a headset to it and see if that works.

I got a reply from Traxxas. Here is the response:

Hello,

Unfortunately it is an issue caused by the latest Android security update and it is not anything we can fix with a Traxxas firmware update. It still works with Apple devices and earlier Android devices. You will need to send your Bluetooth module in and we will re-flash it.

So long as you are in the US or canada it sounds like you need to send it to us for inspection. Please register your vehicle online if you have not already done so.

Once you have registered respond to this e-mail with the vehicles serial number your name, phone number, address and your Zip code. I will generate an RMA number for you to send it in.

I will register my truck and send them the info. I am assuming they can flash it and make it work.

Not to be picky really... but technically if it could be flashed, then that would be firmware. I suspect this is a hardware change to address the problem.

FWIW... I've got some pretty old BT headsets and they all still work ( of the ones that still take a charge ) and pair with my Android which is running v7.0 and using the latest security updates available for it... So they must have done something a little out of the ordinary on their hardware if an update breaks it from working somehow.

This is the only bluetooth device that I have had trouble with aside from trying to communicate with a *shudders* iPhone.

While I don't know their reasoning... Apple has always limited their networking capabilities and they usually only do it "their way" instead of following standards that others ( Android, Linux, Unix and Windows etc ... ) use. So when it comes to networking, you don't really want an Apple/Mac product unless you don't need robust connections.

I talked to traxxas today before I sent my module in. They explained that the latest security update in Android caused their module not to work with the OS. A simple reflashing will fix the issue. It cost me $3 to send it via usps.

My module should be in McKinney Tx tomorrow. Hopefully they will have a fast turn around and I will get it late next week.

Got an email today (2:37pm) and they have finished with my module. It will probably be at my house either wed. or thurs. Nice!
