So the weather has been rubbish here in the UK so I thought why not have a go at making a foam board Spitfire!!!!!:bi_polo:

Sorry for not having full build pictures for you but I just got my head down and decided I was building this. You'll see the drawing which I've used for measurements. Now unsure if this is to scale but it's pretty close, printed out drawing on a4 and basically times' everything buy 4.

She has a 28" wingspan so not a big plane but I only have a small motor 1450KV 120watts with the prop i'm thinking of using with a 2200mah 7.4 battery.

Started off cutting out box sections for fuse and that came together pretty well. (one side of the plane is one piece which includes the rear stabiliser and the other was cut shorter and then I feathered the end to a point so it doesn't have a large lip at the end. There I hit a problem. The rear stabiliser was off centre. To solve this I cut a small grove and bent it straight and hot glued it together.

I then started on the wing this is using the KM3 that Tony did on his V3 trainer (of which I have built but not yet flown) I did not however use the wrap over I simply stuck one on to each other. You can see from the pictures I hope that the bottom part of the wing is one piece and is cut into the fuse giving that seamless look like on the actual plane. Before mounting I cut 45 degree cuts along the top of the wing where it would eventually be mounted to allow for the dihedral and then glued the two remaining pieces on top of that after gluing to fuse. propped the wing tips up with the fuse on the deck and then glued the inside edges and grove to each side of the fuse (HOT GLUE) Been to model shop and bought a few bits today and have done a little more to the model this evening. Depron control horns which just snap in. I'm going to paint this model when I have sorted out the rest of the build.

KEEP YOU POSTED.

The tail is to one side but won't look too bad once painted as the eyes are drawn down by the side profiles of the foam board. It is purely experimental at this stage. but i'm sure this will fly, Straight and true

Cool looking plane, weather has been rough here too, just finished my RCH trainer and want to do the maiden flight but just too windy, keep up the good work!

So since my last post I have done a little more to this build, I decided that I didn't want the motor showing to keep in scale with the spitfire. I found a spinner that fits well and added this. Cut the nose of the plane off installed firewall and attached the motor reinstalled the nose and completed the front of the nose (adding air holes to aid cooling) then decided to add landing gear which didn't go to well as wheels splayed out while doing test taxi. I have since changed this for slightly stiffer piano wire. Machine guns are tooth picks I have also done the exhaust manifolds and air ducts on the underside of the wings. I have also done tail wheel but instead of attaching just before the rudder I have attached this to the rudder to allow for steerable tail wheel. This plane is coming together well. I'm going to start painting it and will upload pics through this process.

Almost done but couldn't find the new yellow paint to do wing edges so i'll just have to find where I put the paint and do that another day. All servos and other electronics added however, I am thinking I'm going to move the 2 rear servos further back to give me room for battery without it all being squashed up on end.

Completed project, all paint completed. and this is the finished product. I may get around to drawing up the plans and make them available for anyone else wanting to give this a try. The full flying weight of this model comes in at 1lb and 1oz would have been well under a 1lb if I hadn't opted for landing gear.
