When you say "not smooth", do you mean it's sticking, or you can feel a ratchet effect? Either way, you can lube the slider, but you hav eto take the case apart. I would loosen the strap just slightly and see if you can get your tension correct. Take a look at the link below. I have many videos on the DX8 and if you scroll down, you will see where you change from mode 1 to mode 2, stick tension adjustment as well as a look inside the case if you need to take it apart. Hope this helps.
