I was just thinking, as dangerous as that sounds, lol.....would it be harmful (in anyway) to get a piece of red wire and a piece of black wire, as well as a male and female plug to make an extension (maybe only 2-3 inches) so that I could plug in my battery with the canopy on my 500? Or, should I just stick with plugging in the battery, then putting the canopy on?

whatchya think?

If you are just talking about extending the wires on either the ESC or the battery, then no, there is no risk. You may add a little resistance to the circuit, but it won't short out. what I would do is to actually take the covering off the ESC, desolder the wires and solder on new wires instead of putting another plug in the mix. You can do this to the battery as well, but it's more risky since you are working with voltage. One slip and you will short out the battery.
