450 An Older Helicopter

Since realising that my 250 dfc pro 3gx was too lively for me to learn with I have been looking for a 450 or 500.
Well I have ended up with a 450 that I bought at a bargain price, it is second hand but came complete, just need to bind, the only thing that I am concerned about is that it is an align 450 xl.
What I need to know is, are these so much different to the modern version?, and is there anything that I should be looking for/checking before I test fly?.
BTW, as part of the deal I got a phoenix sim V3 too!, there are lots to choose from but wanted to ask is there a good model for me to learn from?
Lots of questions I know but I am a noob and am keen to get on,LOL.
Happy Flying Guys and thanks in advance for the advice!,
Andy.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that by getting an older model, the wife says I can keep the Little 250 for when I get better hehe.

The 450xl was the first step for Align, if i remember right they shrunk the TT raptor, it's not e ccpm machine, so you will need to set your swash type to 90 degree one servo, other than that it should not be that far handling wise from a newer fly bar type 450's

some of these old birds are actually very tame and great for learning.!! I converted an OLD nitro 600 to FBL .. it rocked! hung in the air forever! lol (Kinetic 50)

Good Heli-o to you's out there.
I too, just came across a nice 450XL with the Hughes 500 canopy at a price "I just could not refuse". Had to pull the old FM receiver out and put in a Spektrum AR600 to bind it to my DX6i. Not much other programming information out there for this non-ccpm bird and the DX6i.
I have also learned the stock ESC is not programmed for 3 cell lipo cut-off. Anybody have information on the ESC programming? (Not sure who made the one in the canopy now, I believe it is the 18A Align stock ESC).
Here is my new baby with the home made training gear.

Looks like a great bird you got there. Wish I could help you out on the other issues, but I have never ran across those. Hopefully someone here will be able to.

Another 450xl question/situation.
A second boom strike has produced a crack in the plastic Main Rotor Housing in mine. Looking online, that 450XL main head has very little original parts available for it. I see a few CNC replacements, but they seem to all come from China or thereabouts.
What is the best upgrade direction for me in replacing this?
I see these, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metal-Rotor-Housing-Blue-For-Trex-T-rex-450-Helicopter-V2-101/280994297015?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D15932%26meid%3D8955681491565268712%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D7611%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D280994297015%26
And I also see the entire head, like these, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgrade-Parts-CNC-Metal-Main-Rotor-Head-For-T-REX-450-/261150307145?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ccdc57349

Am I reading the later correctly that it will "drop" into my 450XL without an issue?
I am not familiar enough with the other 450 models to know the interchangeability.
Looking forward to hearing what you have done in the past, and how long the slow boat from China really is.
Thanks & Cheers!
