Hello everyone i have purchased an Aeroworks 50cc Edge 540 this is my first gasser and big plane well its big to me anyway. I decided to post the entire build here as i go! I have lots of questions that im hoping the experts can help me with! I have posted some pics and the very first question i have is the Spetrum AR 8000 receiver with one satilite is this good enough or do i need to go with one with more satilites I want to make sure that i am as safe as i can be cause these planes aint cheap but the costs for everything else i need isnt either! so any help with the receiver would be greatly appreciated!!

That is a fantastic looking plane right there!

In a plane that size and with as much money as you are going to have in it, I would run a Rx with 4 satellites. But it will work with what you have, just make sure you mount it away from all other electronics and definitely away from your ignition for the engine.

ok tony i knew you were going to say that with that said here is where i am not sure what to do if i buy a receiver with mutiple satilites the receiver comes with two battery plugs, but the power board that i bought also has two battery plugs so that confuses me on what i should do

You dont need to use both battery ports on the receiver, in fact if you are powering the servos off a power board there would be no point in doing so because most of the power goes through the board.

Personally i wouldn't worry too much about a receiver with one sat if the plane is wood construction, but for sure more sats wont do any harm.

Hi everyōne well im just about done! just a few miner things left. I have a concern though, i put the power board ,receiver and batteries in the tray where the manual shows and the CG was wäy off! It was really tail heavy so i had to move everything forward and there is little room. I actually had to build a tray and glue it on the top of the of the housing the stab gôes through! and mount the powerboard and reciever there. then had to put the batteries on each side of the fuel tank and still had to add just a little weight to get the CG right. I believe the CG is spot on now. The concern is everything is alot closer to the ignition and engine! Should i be concerned?

First... I think you are calling the wrong part the stab... the stabilizer's consist of the vertical and horizontal stabs... ie the tail surfaces. Obviously if you put more weight here, it'd make it tail heavy but I think you meant you added to the nose portion...

Double check the instuctions... but I believe you test the CG with fuel and NOT on an empty tank. Ideally, your fuel tank needs to be pretty close to the CG so as it empties it doesn't affect it as much... so having it close to where instructed is the first "rule" since they'd take that into account during the design. Another possible cause that will vary the CG... which motor you selected vs the one's they recommended since they all will vary slightly. In short, where the CG ends up being will all depend on the specific added equipment you have selected to use.... Differences in motors, servo's and other components can certainly make for differences you see in a build. If you used epoxy in locations where they may have recommended CA could impact the build. Having to shift your equipment is better than needing to add weight but either is pretty normal up to a point.

Im sorry i thought the wing tube was referred to as the the stab my bad! but i can tell you the manual says the plane should be ready to fly minus fuel in the tank when you do the CG test!

Yes, always test CG with empty tank because the tank is ahead of the CG, so after filling the model will be slightly nose heavy, which is 'safe'. If you set the CG with a full tank then the plane ends up being tail heavy when the fuel is used, which is very bad.

If you locate the satellite receiver somewhere aft away from all the hardware up front then you should be fine. Do a thorough range check walking a full circle around the plane at 30 paces radius so you can detect if the signal is poor in any one orientation.

Awesome thank you very much! and yes the satililite is down by the tail and i will definitely will do the range check

I have another question I bought the powerboard because i can run everything off of two batteries plus if one battery fails i can run off the second to get it safely on the ground. It has a low voltage alarm and an opti-kill switch I thought i was being safe but a friend says he doesnt think its safe without a seperate battery to the ignition so confused!! What should i do?

Well Today i have decided that i am officially done with spektrum,I have murphy's long lost cousin we will call him winfred!! iI have worked countless hours on this heli trying to get it into the air. i have one problem left that has plagued me from the beginning and that is the throttle servo it will not work like it is supposed to when you switch form normal mode to stunt 1 and it wont work at all when you switch to stunt 2 I have changed fly barless systems i have checked the settings in the transmitter hundreds of times I even sent this heli Winfred to Tony for some help he set it up for me it worked fine. I got it back put his settings in my spektrum dx 9 and the throttle servo will not work. I called spektrum talked to the tech he told me it was not the transmitter it was a setting in the transmitter but he had no idea what it was but would call me if he found some one that knew what it was. Course i never got that call!! Today i took my edge 540 out for its maiden flight during the flight i lost signal twice. The first the engine kind of acted like it was shutting off then would turn back on wasnt sure what was going on brought it around to land it and completely lost my signal and had no control of it it was headed staight for the ground and there was nothing i could do, my heart sank. Abount 30 feet from the ground i got signal back and was able to safely land it . I beleive this is a spektrum problem and i am switching to futaba its one thing to loose my brand new plane from a mistake that i made i could swallow that but to lose a plane because of this that woudnt have set well with me. Im just so thankful i have another chance , But until i can make the switch no more flying for me

Damn bro, that really sucks. I have not had a single issue with my DX9 and love it. But I do understand where you are coming from. If I was about to lose a 50cc plane or a 600 size helicopter, I would swap too.

You could always go with the Tx that Bert Kammerer is using...
BK Edition DS-14 Jeti Transmitter With Telemetry

And URI will be in here shortly to tell you to get his Tx lmao. I can't remember what it is though.
