A windy flight :).

I hate windy days. Even though I can fly in pretty high wind, it`s just not fun. You can`t really practice anything with any precision, and you`re fighting the helicopter instead of flying it. Nice flying, BTW. :)

Sorry to hear that Geena,
You`ve just described exactly how I feel flying the Blade 400 in the wind - it`s just not fun - especially for a beginner trying to gain more precision! It`s really frustrating not to be able to try out the new manoeuvres I`ve learnt on the Sim :sorrow:

Good news though! Thanks to Admiral who suggested that a FBL Heli is more stable in the wind and a very lucky purchase on e-bay (I made a vey cheeky offer)
I now have a Tarot 450 Pro v2 FBL Heli! She is a complete new build the only used part is the 40amp esc and so much heavier than the B400 - Quality metal / carbon fibre parts, Beast FBL gyro and Align servo`s, also, lots of spares and CF blades!
I`m going to use her as my trainer as she`s hopefully going to be more stable :biggrin1:

Wishing you and all calmer days ahead

Even though I don’t like windy days, I still fly. I have to be able to do demo flights at the events I go to, no matter what the wind or weather says.
You’re going to like the tarot a lot more than those blade 400s keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks a lot Geena
I`m really looking forward to getting her in the air (too windy again today!)
I`m sure I will be able to progress quicker with the Tarot and will keep you all posted.
I read on helifreak.com that FBL Heli`s can tip over on take off and landing due to the FBL system? Some people advise bigger landing gear and some say training gear is fine? I would appreciate your thoughts please?

They can tip over on spool up, it’s not as much of an issue as it was when FBL systems first came out. I don’t think you need bigger landing gear, but you should start correcting as it is spooling up.
I don’t like training gear. To me, they become a sort of crutch and I have seen so many pilots keep them on way longer than they should. Another reason I don’t like them is because they cause the helicopter to not fly right. Any little vibration in the helicopter seems to be magnified by the training gear, and for the training gear to be effective you have to stay close to the ground. So now you are staying in ground effect and dealing with rotor wash acting against the helicopter and the training gear. I know there will some on here who say I’m wrong, this is from my own personal experience with training gear and y’all’s mileage may vary.

I happen to agree with Geena. I'm not as talented as she is but I don't like training gear either. To me, I've notice that the Heli reaction to stick control seem slower with training gear on. Like it's in Slow -Mo and I didn't like that. A little tougher to control :2c:

Found an old video of the training gear I used back in 2010, made the Helicopter sluggish but saved a lot of money, heli felt like driving a Ferrari when the gear was taken off. Didn't use it for long , but it did instill confidence and because it was so rigid also worked with early FBL units.

Sorry for late reply Geena, the site seemed to be down all day yesterday?
Thanks for the advice based on your own experience :)
Given D.OG. and Admirals posts, I`m going to fit a very light set of training gear for the first few flights (She`s a new build and never flown) My Hovering is very good so I will then take it off! She`s 50% heavier than the Blade 400 and Admiral advised that FBL should also help in the wind (I definitely will be dis-charging my Lipo`s if the wind is too strong though :duh:) It`s really calm here today, charging Lipo`s right now :biggrin1:

You`re welcome. I`m always happy to help in any way I can. 50% heavier? That`s a pretty sizable difference, but it could be an advantage to you for flying in windy conditions. A heavier helicopter will settle in better, and the wind won`t affect it as badly as a lighter helicopter. Wail until you get into a 700 though. They weigh on average, anywhere from 10-13+ pounds. My Whiplash 730E weighs 11.4 pounds ready to fly, and my Whiplash 90 nitro weighs 12.4 pounds with a full fuel tank.

Thanks Geena, I really appreciate your help and could do with it again now Lol!
My maiden flight with the Tarot 450 Pro went really well, up to a point? I`ve put a post in the 450 threads if you could please help :) A 700 weighing that much must be so stable, John Salt`s 600 in his flight school video`s (Helicopterfun.com) seems so locked in!
