380/420 Gaui X3l Under Construxtion

The Gaui X3L that I recently purchase is under way, few delays because of parts, I stripped down a Compass Warp and not all the components that I needed were compatible, things like an ESC I wasn't sure of and a motor with too low a KV rating and a broken servo arm not a MKS servo which has a different spline to every servo arm I have in stock and thats a heap. So I decided to slow the process down and take my time with the build.

Good for you to slow down and take your time. It's not like you don't have other birds to fly. Still the build is looking good Admiral. No need to rush perfection :).

I do like those CF flippers. Wonder if they make them for the Goblin...

Yes we can see Tony it is very Goblin influenced in appearance but the flippers aren't staying Tony, as I fly mainly on grass they are being replaced withe original skids, if @Geena has trouble with them on grass I'm not going there.

hahaha, I hear ya. I just like the look of the Goblin's with flippers. My first flight with this little guy might change my mind. Especially if I have to replace the blades lmao.

I did the same Admiral. I took Geena's advice too and put the spare skids from the X3 and put them on the X3L Just to be on the save side and save a couple $$$$ if she tipped over.

Had a day to myself, all finished except for the new ESC which is on the way I have fitted another ESC to do the setup but will swap it out before the maiden.

With flippers for Tony, I also like them but...

As finished with original X3 skids.

Was a great build, easier than the first because of the previous experience, I think that the only issue for anybody who didn't have a copy of the original manual they would have a few problems as the manual supplied with the X3L is really only the upgrade manual for the standard X3. The X3 manual is available on the Gaui site however.

Glad to see you got her done Admiral. It's looking good. A little heads up, don't forget the X3L is going to be tail heavy, Geena mention. Depending on the battery your using, slide it forward. I'm using a small 1250 mah and I had to add extra weight to level her out. Just a warning.

Thanks D.O.G. I'm using a 1450 and have an 1800 on standby in case I need it.
Trouble is with new technology batteries are getting lighter for the same output.

Well I couldn't wait for the new ESC to arrive, after not being able to fly for 3 weeks due to a trip away and 2 weeks of gail force winds common sense went out the window and I decided to maiden the X3L, in spite of a bit of rain and wind, the site was the under cover basket ball area where I normally fly.
Should have flown up and down the court to save the glare on the video but that would have meant a cross wind and I didn't want that for a maiden.

All in all it went well the slight tail heaviness that I plan on addressing after the new ESC arrives, did not effect the flight at all but may do later when I'm flying full circuits. Will raise the head speed a bit before the next flight, but it looks great in the air and is stable and predictable to fly, very pleased.

Beside the rough start, nice going Admiral. Seem very stable and smooth. I bet you can't wait for the new esc and the weather to clear up so you can take that bad boy out for a real flight. Enjoy the X3l and keep the videos coming.

Ah yea, look at that modified pinch! NICE!

Definitely looked very good in the air, but you really should upload a video that is fresh, not from 2012!!! :chuckles:

Nice, and looks like a perfect place for a median. Wind and rain has been the story here too....

I have some of those glasses so I know the pain. Just had to give you a hard time. Great flight nonetheless.
