Quad Building My First Quad

I would like any and all input on building a quad from the ground up. I want to know everything. The quad I want will be a 250 size. I would like it to be able to fly easy for a beginner and tunable to make it more agile as my skills advance. I have not really thought about a budget for the quad but I figure about $350 or so should get it. I would also like it to fly on up to a 4S battery, I'm really not sure about that one but I am guessing it would be more powerful with that # of cells, I don't know. I have not made a concrete decision on a frame but I want it to have 4 to 5mm thick arms. I want it to be very strong. I want the motors to be reliable, not some el-cheapo crap that will fail after a couple months. The same goes for the ESCs. I want a Rx that is compatible with Spektrum DSMX. I want this quad to have parts that will be available for a while and not hard to find. As for props, I don't know if the two or three bladed ones are better but I do like the three bladed ones as they look better.

That being said, there are companies that have quads already built. I have not looked around at the different ones so if that would be my best bet, then so be it. But I do want the experience of building it myself. I really enjoy that aspect of RC.

So, what do you guys think? Is it a pretty hefty endeavor? Am I going about it wrong? Don't hold back!

Lets start with flight characteristics. On quads these days, they are all very easy to fly in Angle mode and even Horizon mode. Acro mode is like flying a helicopter and is much harder. Trust me though, you are not going to have an issue flying any quad you decide to get.

As for the difference between 220 and 250, not much other than size. They pretty much use the same motors. I have a 210, 220 and a 250 and one thing I can say, the smaller quads are much quicker. And this 220 has stronger motors and in my opinion a better FC. I can't wait to fly thing thing!

As for your last comment on the wind, if you flew in the wind at my house, you would not fly in it either lol. Straight line winds I have no issue with. But this wind starts tumbling after it goes over the trees and forces you into the ground when you least expect it.

Back on topic.

Is it advisable to opt for thicker frames when building a larger quad? Sometimes over building can hurt the aircraft.

these micro quads are very strong. I have crashed the crap out of all of my quads and have only broke props which are cheap. I even ran into a T post at a pretty good rate of speed, and broke nothing.

So I've been doing some research. I have made a decision that the frame I get should have individual arms that can be replaced easily if damaged. I also want to be able to fly with 6" props. The frame I want should house all the electronics inside the main part of the body. I will, but don't want to, get a chinese frame but I would rather get a frame from a reputable company.

So, with that out of the way, I'd like to know how to choose the right power distribution board, flight controller, and VTX (if required).

I am very behind the times on flight controllers right now, but the one linked below is the one that I'm running on the new 220 quad. I have only found one issue with it, and if you can't tune it out, it is a major issue. And the issue is, if you give it a good punch out, then let it fall and then right before hitting the ground you go max throttle, it will just cut power. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or if it is a bad setting. I still have to do more testing. But these stacks like this make for a very clean quad when you are done.

As for the one you linked to, double check the height. That triple stack is quite tall. Also check the hole spacing.
