I guess I'm getting old :sad0147: To decrease head speed do I... go up in motor pinion or go down?

You can simply go to a lower toothed pinion gear if you want to lower your head speed.

Thanks Derek. Trying to decrease the headspeed on my X3. I have a 13T on it now. I'm getting ready to order some motor pinions and I'm looking at the 3 pack but want to make sure they have the 3 I need. If not I'll order just the one I want.

Or in most cases simply reduce the % throttle in your throttle curve. Are you using a governor?

No governor being used on any of my birds. The throttle curves on the X3 is on stunt 1= 75 across and 85 on stunt 2.

Personally I much prefer using a governor, it just give more consistent performance and feel through the flight with no bogging down under load or as the battery gets depleted. But you could still reduce headspeed by dropping down your throttle % a bit more.

Thanks Smoggie. I will try dropping down the throttle % a bit today.

I have a 10t on a 3500 kv 3s setup. My highest head speed at nominal is around 3100. With light flying I get about 7 minutes on brand new or newer packs.

Hey murankar. Thanks for that information. I half a three pack of motor pinion for my GauiX3 on order. 10t/11t/12t. At the moment, I have a 13t on the Xnova 2618 XTS series and she is a screamer. I get 3 min. flight time now :( I know I can do better on flight time.

I would drop straight to the 10t and see if that's going to work. I know my head speeds are still going to be less than yours and flies just fine. Now I do know that I don't have the punch that most folks want. Pitch pumps at the bottom does not have the instant stop or crisp stop. I probably could add more pitch but for me it works for now.

This is what I ordered, no 10t [LX1030] LYNX Carbon Steel Pinion Pack 11T-12T-13T - for 3.5mm Motor Shaft GAUI X3 and should be here by the weekend. I'll start with the 11t

Then drop straight to the 11t. I think you might find it more than enough.

I forgot to purchase back up blades so I'm going to place another order and this time I will also order a 10t motor pinion. Thanks murankar.

Try the 11t first since you have it. I don't have the time to work out the math on the head speed. I think you will be close to what I have with the 11t. Personally I don't think you will need more than 3500 at the head. I flown as low as 2600 and did fine for flying like an airplane minus inverted.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to use is to help me out http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/gallery/32055/hdspeed.html Your right. No need to go more then 3500. I like to be around 32/3300.

Well it's not that you can't go over, it just why. You can do everything possible between 2700 and 3500. At the lower end jump to 14° of pitch. At the higher end I would go about 12°-13° of pitch.

Thanks Smoggie. Yeah it's a little tight but it works fine for me. murankar suggested to try the 11T and I'm pleased with it. Now I'm going to drop tooth on the 450 from 13T to 12T
