Apparently ... I need to get a life... lmao Work was slow ( pretty normal this time of year )... So I went back to the system quotes on this last project and reworked them hard this time. First thing, I dropped from the i9-9900k 3.6Ghz-5.0Ghz 8-Core ( with hyper threading ) to an i7-9700k 3.6Ghz-4.9Ghz 8-Core ( also with HT ) CPU... this shaved off another $100 from the cost with only a 0.1Ghz loss in performance. Before you say I could probably make it up with an OC, know that OC'ing a part while advertised by both Intel and AMD on their CPU's also voids the warranty ( unless you buy Intel's add-on warranty to cover OC'ing ). Also OC'ing is a "silicon lottery" sort of thing, so I just take the advertised speeds as what the CPU's can do and don't recommend pushing it for minor gains that can void the warranty. Next, I revisited the memory again... I doubled it back up to the original 32Gb DDR4 but dropped down to 3000 CL 16, so it costs more than the 16Gb in the last quote but not twice what the 3200's would have run. I also switched out the case again, this time for one that didn't include tempered glass but maintained the look of the original case. I also added 3 120mm hydro bearing case fans ( an increase of 1 fan over the other cheaper system quote ). I also dropped down from the Noctua NH-D15 dual fan CPU cooler down to their single NH-U14S version that another fan could be added if needed. I also found an 850w 80+ bronze level PS that was semi-modular for close to the price of the 750W I'd switched too on the last system... and was still able to stay with a name brand. I stayed with the lower cost EVG 2080 Ti since it's just a good deal that can't be beat. The price would still be below the $3000 that the other lower cost one was without a much lower difference in performance to boot. Obviously if the system was to be used in a professional environment, the added costs on the original quote would be quickly offset by the savings in labor costs... but for anyone else such as a part time content creator or a gamer... it'd be well worth saving the money. This has been more an exercise in curiosity as to what this type of system would run currently after prices finally started dropping at the end of last year in the GPU, SSD and memory markets. I only have a handful of architects that I need to service that take advantage of this type of system and most gamers are going to lean towards a more conservative cost type of build. Speaking of which... I should revisit a nice top end build using a Ryzen chip for more S&G's.
