I m very new to RC period. I bought a raptor se heli. Very nice, but, I'm having with my GV1 governor. It does not sense the magnets in the sensor menu of the Gov. I've read the manual and am wondering if one of the mags. could be in upside down. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a neodymium magnet and see if the same side is attracted to both magnets. It's easy to put them in backwards, I have done it and getting them out is a chore in itself.

Oh boy,it looks like it would be a bear. Where can I find the magnet you speak of? I got the heli from a friend, it was his dads project and I don't know if he installed them correctly. I read the directions and will assume that is the problem. What do I do to get them out? Thanks Tony.

If the magnets are mounted in an aluminum fan, you can use Acetone to help get them out. If it has a solid back, you will need to make a hole back there which in most cases it is easier and safer to just get a new fan. If parts are not available anymore, I would suggest not trying to get it flying as a daily flier. Keep it as more of a casual flier. As for where to get the magnets to check the ones in the helicopter, you can use any magnet that has a defined north and south pole. Fridge magnets are not useful here in most cases. You can order small magnets on ebay all day long. You don't need a large one, just try to find the same size you already have.

I don't think Thunder Tiger is in business anymore. So getting parts is going to be tough. You may have to forum And or facebook surf to find sale ads.

The magnets Tony suggested can be found on Amazon. Just make sure to pay attention to the sizes. Its possible to source them locally. Just ask questions around town to find a vendor.

I know that there are some people that collect vintage helicopters. Ironically a 5 year old frame can be considered vintage in this hobby.

Hey I really don't know what you are talking about with the magnets . So I will leave that to you . I have a thunder tiger raptor E550 . I bought from graupner USA In California . they claim parts are still being made . but that some older helicopters are being fazed out . lots of parts In Europe on eBay. Thought I burnt my tail servo out. I could find them in Germany,Poland,Italy . But would not ship to the USA. I guess are cash is no good over there .

Customes is a pain in the back side.

You are going to have to locate the magnets. Then with another magnet that you have laying around you will have to see which side attracts to the first magnet in the heli, just pick one.
Once you know which side attracts to your magnet mark it so you dont forget which side attracts. Now attempt to see if the other magnet in the heli is attracted to the marked side of your magnet. If it is then you have a backwards magnet in the heli one needs removed and flipped and remounted in place.

Thank guys. I did find that both magnets were installed in the same direction. I pulled one and flipped it. The sensor is not registering either one, so I figure it's the sensor itself. I will buy a new sensor and try that. Tony, did I hear you say you don't use a governor on one of your bids? And thank you so much for your help. Also, do I need a fly bar lock to set my pitch and if so, where can I find one for that model. Thanks.

Club at locks are very hard to come by. You can make one with a popsicle stick a couple long bolts and some nuts.

A few years ago smaller birds under the 500 class were flown on v curve and not governor. It wasn't until the FBL era that smaller birds used governors. Also back in the early days of nitro the only governor you had was a v curve. Then finally the multi gov was created for nitro. In reality all helis could be flown in v curve format but with everything having a built in governor its just easier to fly a governor.

If you are using a mechanical pitch gauge, you can set your pitch without a flybar locking tool (I think URI was bit by the autocorrect bug in the beginning of his post above...). If you are using a digital gauge though, you will need one. Even something as simple as a Popsicle stick and some wire ties to keep it in place will work. Just put it across the head block and wire the flybar to it to keep it from moving.

And I only use the governor on my 600 nitro. All of my other helicopters I just run them as is. I probably should run a governor to stabilize the head speed, but yea, I don't fly that hard lol.
