450 wiring question

On my recently purchase unfinished Align 450 sits a unit on the right frame under the battery. This unit is about inch and half by half inch wide. It has a three wire harness out the rear end and a black and red wire out the front maybe 20 or 22 gauge. It is encapsulated in blue plastic covering. What is it and how is it wired in?
Thanks for your help again. Really enjoy this forum.

Sounds like the ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) it supplies power from the battery (the Red & Black wires) to the motor via the 3 wires and there should be a thin wire to connect to the Rx (Receiver) a photo would help to verify this.

Most of the time it's a white wire, signal, with the red and black but who knows now-a-days with all the different ESC out there.

What Admiral said.
The red and black wires go to the battery (respecting polarity red =+ and black =-) and the three wires connect to the motor (in any sequence). If the motor runs backward swap any two of the three wires to reverse direction (But NEVER swap the battery wires!)
As Admiral said, there should be one other cable emerging from the ESC. this will be a standard servo type lead with a 3 pin servo plug on the end. This connects to the throttle channel of your receiver or flybarless controller. This lead serves two functions, it delivers power to the receiver/servos and controls motor speed.

If you mean the three wires that come from the ESC and connect to the motor, actually the colors are irrelevant. Many ESC's and motors just have black wires anyway. The three wires are just to carry the three power phases, there is no signal wire or positive or negative.

On the other hand, the throttle cable that runs to the receiver does work the way you described... was that what you meant?
