Other Tx Rx compatability?

I'm new to rc and have been looking into Tx / Rx setups and have seen all the numerous brands...Futaba, Spectrum, Fly Sky, Turnigy, etc...

My main question is how do you determine Rx compatibility to your Tx. In other words how do you know if a Hobby King Rx is going to work with a Fly Sky transmitter or what not? Also, what is the range of these receivers? Are the Fly Sky, Orange, Turnigy going to get the same results as say a Spektrum?

Like I said, I'm new to all this but am smart enough to know that all hobbies have a learning curve and lots of times the difference between lots of this equipment comes down to branding and what not. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

They will only work if they are the same brand. Spektrum TX with Spektrum RX. Etc

If its a RX from another company it will say Spectrum compatible or futaba compatible etc. The name brand rx's are mostly better than others. Orange, are more for park flying than long range.
