You mean from cold start up? You can start it, let it run for about 30 seconds on the bench then put it down and slowly drive it around for a minute. They heat up pretty quickly.
Most don't even wait that long, but just remember when the engine is cold, the sleeve is slightly tighter on the piston so hammering on it can hurt it a little faster.
