Here's an interesting article on Servo Flap controlled rotor. It was used by Kaman in his counter-rotating intermeshing designs. Basically the pitch of the rotor is controlled by little flaps mount at 75% of the rotor on the trailing edge. By moving these flaps (like little elevators) aerodynamic force (rather than hydraulic force) pitches the blades, greatly reducing the mechanics. Might be an interesting RC project
