Projects Lee's F22 Raptor build

Its been a while since i built a plane, with all the heli dramas and building Quadcopters. So today i started to build an F22 Raptor.
I've had the foam board sitting here for 5 months waiting, and i have the electrics from another dead plane.
So here we go.

First up I printed and cut the plans i downloaded from RCFoamFighters.

Then i started cutting out the pieces. I used black and white board to give it a two tone effect.

For the folds in the board they say to cut a groove where the fold is to be. I prefer to just strip the paper away, and the foam just squashes. It make a better finish on the other side.

Once all the parts were cut out and the slots were cut, I pieced it all together dry.

Ok so next step is to glue it all together and install the electrics.

I love that plane. I had dual EDF's in it and ended up cooking both ESC's on the maiden flight, but that is one of the most stable "jets" you can get. And it being free, it's even better.

Are you going to run a prop, or EDF in this one? I would highly suggest the propjet spinning a 6x4. But I"m sure you knew that. Can't wait to see this thing in the air bro.

I have the motor and ESC from my Funjet, but i don't know if its too big or not. I will do a test fit for CoG. Would be nice to see this thing really rip.

Too big? For this Jet? NEVER!!! Put that sucker in there and let her rip. You will be able to cruse around at 1/4 throttle and haul some ass at full throttle. I will bet this thing will see upwards of 70+ MPH in the sky if not much faster. Damn you, now I want to build mine again.

The motor ESC combo in my funjet was hitting 100 + . I will put some carbon rod in the leading edge of the wings.

i think i have those same plans Lee just no foam to build it with... Hey whay kind of motor is that Lee??? i also have a E-Flite delta v 32 90mm edf with matching motor would love to find a jet to put it in!!!! 130 bucks worth of motor just sitting here itching to scream...

The motor is a Turnigy 2836 motor. Its rated at 2350KV but in tests, its actually 2800KV. The ESC is a Hobbyking SS 60/70A. Running a 6x4 prop on my sky fanjet on 4S, it did 130mph. So i'm curious as to what this will do. AUW is 760g

oh geez, now i gotta make one of these, too, lol

You pics looks great and if your tests are hitting 2800kv, this should be really impressive! Good luck buddy!

oooo, I just had an after-thought...make one of these, then "piggy-back" it on my big plane. Fly my big plane up to some altitude then detach this plane from my big plane and have someone fly this lil screamer around, lol.

sorry, I just got home from a really crappy night at work and my brain is a bit loopy.

Added some decals to the fuse. And to hold the nose together and give a bit more visibility, added a yellow nose cone.

You do know those were supposed to go out towards the tips of the wings, right? And there is another set for the rudders. Either way, I'm loving this!

Servo position was the head scratcher tonight.
Theres suppose to be three servo for aileron and elev, but i decided to split the elevator in two and make the plane a dual aileron "bank and yank" plane. I'll have two control arms going to the two flaps.
I wanted to hide the servos and wires. So i mounted them inside the lower frame and stuck the servo arm through the side of the frame.

Well heres the maiden flight. Almost started with disaster, but in the end, wow what a plane.
Enjoy

I did change the control rods for stronger ones after the first session. It made a huge difference to the stability.
I made them from a fibreglass rod and a thin strip of fibreglass. Drilled holes along the strip for fine adjustment.
