I have been in talks with vBulletin personnel, and have the problem with the iPhone figured out. Now, your not going to be happy with the answer, but they are working on the issue as we speak.
The problem with the iPhone and iPad is you can browse the forum, and talk in the chat, but you can not post new replies, or new threads. The fix for this is to disable your Javascript in Safari. When you disable Javascript, you can still browse the forum, but you can not post anything in the chat unless you turn it back on.
I have the iPhone, and yes it's a pain in the butt. But, it's the only known fix for it right now. I do apologize for this inconvenience.
