500 HK500GT - Align Parts Upgrade Component List

G'day All and Sundry,

After some sound advice given earlier within these pages, I'm about to order some bits and pieces - and in so doing, hopefully not fall into the traps of the vastly more experienced people within these forums.

Being very much a Newbie, could someone please confirm that I'm on the right track with the following part numbers?

  1. Metal Washout Arms (H50012)
  2. Metal Mixing Arms (H50024)
  3. Feathering Shaft (H50083)
  4. Dampeners with Sleeves (H50022) - Does these come with the sleeves? It doesn't show them in the parts list for this part number. If sold seperately, what would said part number be?
  5. Main Gears (H50018-1)
  6. Tail Drive Gears (H50019)

Does anyone know if the Main Gear and Tail Drive Gear comes as an assembly? (as per the ones in the HK500GT) If so, what would part number be?

Strangely enough, I could not find the part numbers for what I've been calling a "thingamejig" and "hoosimiwatchit". Any help with this, would be much appreciated but maybe not as important as the above parts list.

My thanks in advance,
Squiz

First, let me share some posts that I have made on this heli. You may have read them already, but I'm going to post them anyway :biggrin1:

Here is the slop that is in the stock head.
HK500GT Blade Tracking Problem

Here is the Re-Maiden video after putting on all of the parts.
HK500GT Blade Tracking Problem - Page 5

As you can see, everything worked great. The mixing and washout arms were from the EXI 500 to save money, but the feathering shaft, dampers and sleeve were Align. As were the plastics. Canopy was EXI as well.

If you could take pics of what you are calling thingamejig and hoosimiwatchit, we can get you a part number.

As for your list, #3's part number is actually the dampers with sleeve. Don't get the part number you have listed on #4, it's not correct.

Everything else looks good though. The part number for the tail drive gears came up with 3 different parts, the main gear, auto rotation gear, and the front tail drive gear. If you could, post links to the parts you are looking for. You are an aussie, so I'm sure you are not ordering from readyheli like I do, and your supplier may have different items per part number. So if you would, post the links and I will know where you are buying from and link you to exactly what you need to get.

G'day Tony,

Cheers again for help.

I have had a look at those links previously. Items 1-4 were taken from what you've posted.

I figured I'd replace the main gear and the one directly beneath (or on top - I can't remember, I'm at work) as I've read somewhere that they can be out of shape/dodgey. The gear in question (not the main gear), is the one that the belt is hooked up to, to drive the tail rotor.

I'm going to get the stuff through RC-Bits and the page I'm looking at on their website is http://www.rcbits.com.au/catalog/55/trex_500

And with regards to the "thingamejig" and "hoosimiwatchit" - it's all good Matey, I was only taking the p1ss. I've come along way since my intro post on this site - still a veeeeery long way to go but not as bad.

Cheers,
Squiz

Main gear and auto-rotation gear is what you are referring to. Lets see if I can get the links you are needing.

These are the yellow parts I purchased and loved!

I think that is all of the links to the parts you need. They have the package set for the metal washout and mixing arms that will save you a little money. Let me know if you need any help with anything else or if I didn't answer something. Hope to see this thing in the air soon.

Any time bud. One thing you will also want to replace is that canopy. It's a very cheap plastic and will shatter if you breathe on it too hard lol. Also, if I can find the thread, you should do the battery tray mod so you can run the 3000mah batteries and still have good CoG. It lowers the battery tray about 1/2 inch, or 1cm, somewhere in there lol.

Okay then, that sounds cool. I'll definitely look out for a new canopy too.

I have a Turnigy Nano-Tech 2650 6S 35~70C Lipo and was wondering how it was going to fit under the canopy - it's huge!! It came with the kit (as a present).

Going to a 3000mah - what benefit is there for doing this? Will the flight times be longer? Will the battery last longer, perhaps?

I haven't given a massive amount of thought with regards to batteries as yet (apart from the suggestions given in my intro post). Perhaps I should be stocking up on 3000mah batteries?

On another note, I made contact with the local club and the President said he'd be happy to go over it once I've completed the build. I'm pretty 'chuffed' about that! Couple that with advice from the likes of you and the other forumites, and hopefully, I won't look too silly once I hit the 'go' button.

The 500's were actually designed to run the 2650mah pack. You will do great with that one. Going from 2650 to 3000 will give you a slight amount more of runtime, but not really enough to notice. The 3000's are what Lee and I have run and it's what we know.

Parts are in :applause:. I don't know if it's nerves or excitement. Mwahahahahahahaaaaaa!

Just had another look at Tony's video on re-building the main rotor assembly/head. Subsequently, I couldn't wait for the weekend and it's now in bits... waiting for the weekend.

Is it wrong to not want to go into work tomorrow? And maybe Monday too - just in case?

I just thought I would give an update of sorts.

I bought an Align Main Gear Assembly (H50018-1) and Autorotation Tail Drive Gear (H50019) because I've read of some dramas with the originals that come with the HK500GT can be out of round.

Well the screws for the original one way clutch are bigger than the holes to screw into on new Align gears.

It's no biggy but a slight pain in the backside, indeed.

It also got me thinking that I should order an Align one-way bearing and shaft, so as to keep the whole "assembly" new... which I did. So now waiting on parts.

But hey, my signature does say, "(Ever so) slowly"...

Lol
