Flight Controllers Board Questions

Helloooo

Couple of quick quesitons.

KK2 Board: how often should I calibrate the ACC's on the board?
Also Auto Level settings...Pitch and Roll...do these get setup with Auto Level off or on
or does it matter?

CC3D Board: I use 2 types of RX's, a Spektrum AR8000 and an Orange PPM DSMX compatible. One for the 250 and one for my EOX
I know the Lemon will work on this board due to the PPM but will the Spektrum?
I also noted that depending on the RX you may have to "make" a cable??

As I make progress in the next "hand made" quad I am building I am preparing/researching
alternative accessories ahead of time.

ACC, just once at the set up.
On

Spektrum will work
Cable comes with the CC3D

As I close in to the finished project I am considering the CC3D board for my "From the Ground up" build
Have done some research on the software and have read most of the WiKi stuff out there.
So in light of the setup of the board/quad itself is there anything I should know up
front that may not have stuck out in my research.
Things like power connections and silly little things like that, do's and dont's so
I do not end up accidentally frying it :)

That board is really easy to set up. If you atch my quad build, I go through the basic setup of that board. Power is supplied from 1 of the ESC's and that is about all there is to it.

Mine does not. Sure wish it did though. But for a couple bucks you can get one to hook up to your lipo. That is what I have to do.

Ok since I am going to the CC3D board on the newest build I have some basic questions
for you guys that have experience with this board.
So here goes....
I have been reading the WIKI site and it seems that the 1st thing you need to check
is what BL version the board is at which is found within the software.
Now then some boards come with the latest BOOT LOADER, some do not.
There seems to be a different procedure to update the BL prior to doing
any firmware updates.
I would obviously follow the OP procedure for this.
1: Has anyone had to do this and was there any issues to speak of?
So once I have the BL up to the latest I then begin the setup for the board
and within this there is the button to UPGRADE the firmware.
2: Is the latest firmware built into the latest version of the software?
Or does it go out to the internet and download it automatically?
That's where I am a bit confused.

Ok now that I am over this hump I get to the screen where you can select
a pre-setup config (cloud) from the list. For example Blackout 330
Now then I complete my setup and go fly.
I find that I am not too happy with the config I selected and want to
try a different one before tweaking anything.

3: Do I have to go back through the COMPLETE setup as if I were starting out fresh
or just go back to that screen and select and apply a different config and try again?

Back stepping a bit (sorry) the ESC's I am getting are BL Heli with damped light and One Shot 125.
Looking over videos I seen a selection for One Shot in the ESC setup
4: I would assume I should select this option for the ESC's I have?

I am sure I will be asking more but this will get me started :)

All the boards I have had recently, were all on the latest BL.

When you plug the board in, just go through the vehicle set up, and do the firmware upgrade.

I'm sure there must be a way to get to the vehicle pre sets, without needing to do everything again.
I think I just bypassed all the other menus.
One shot ESCs should select oneshot in the menu.

I was reading on the WIKI for the CC3D that only one power cable from one ESC is necessary
to be attached to the CC3D board.
That being said should I remove the power pin from the remaining ESC's?
Or will it not hurt the board to have all 4 plugged in?
I did read further on the following page that the board can handle up to 15 volts.
Looks like it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove the pin from the other 3 just to be safe.

It will depend on whether the BECs in the ESCs are Linear or switching.
Linear, you can leave all four in.
Switching, only leave ESC nº 1 with BEC power.

Well this might sound like a stupid 2nd question...if the site does not
specify other than the words 5v, 3 amp BEC, how can one tell otherwise?
I put 12 amp esc's on the 250 from this site and connected all 4 to the KK2
and so far I've not toasted anything :)

Well I found this with pictures :)
If this is mostly true I would say I have linear BECS.
Pics are about 2/3rds down the page

Yep, not sure with those.
But if the hot one is anyone but number 1, try only powering the board with number one, and see if the hot one doesn't get hot.
Its just to test if the BEC is working well or causing an issue (heat)

Brian from MRM just confirmed they are Linear.
He also commented on that if the ESC's are specified for Multirotors
they are most likely to be Linear.

Ok lets say I am happy for the moment with the settings on the CC3D.
However I may be drifting in one direction or the other.
I know that I can fix this on the transmitter using the sub trims but I
would rather not do so.
What part of the GCS software should I lean on to remove left right front or rear drift?
When I say drift I mean mean slight movement in one direction nothing erratic.

If its drifting in completely still conditions, then there are two ways to adjust it.

1) go into accel bias and adjust the numbers to make the copter level.

2) much easier way. figure out which way the copter is drifting, and how badly.
Place some thing under the leg that on the side the copter is drifting toward, lifting it up slightly.
The thickness of what you put under will depend on the speed of drift.
Once done, go into set level menu, and press set level. Bingo your quad is stable :)
You may need a couple of attempts to work out whats the right amount to lift it.

Lee
I did the level option and it helped a lot.
I'm going to take it to work and crank it up in the shop where no wind or breeze can affect it to see if I need to tweak more but right now even in about 5 to 10 mph wind she does pretty good.
Thanks
