380/420 Belt Tension

Hey guys,

I'm putting my Gaui X3 back together. I just installed the tail boom.
How do I figure out what the right tension is for the belt?

Also where is the belt supposed to sit on the tail rotation gear? Even when I move it up, it slips to the bottom when I turn the head.

Thanks,
Dino

On my X3 I make sure I Don't have more then 1/4" play between the belt when I squeeze it by the tail gear. That's just me.

If the belt is drifting on the pully something is not level or straight. One of your gears is not lined up correctly.

I just pull until I feel good tension on the belt. If you notice any slipping while flying, then tighten it up some more.

I tighten it enough to not slip on the pulleys when I hold the tail hud, and try to turn the main rotor. Tightening it too tight, will put side load on the radial bearings in the tail drive system, and could cause them to wear out faster than they should. Not to mention the tail drive will be stiff.
