So im going to get an Align Trex 500E Super Combo even though my profile says that i've already got the model, I havent, i've simple just got enough saved up that I could get it. But, before I do I was just wondering if anyone has an honest opinion/ review of the Align Trex 500E Super Combo, anything on this topic would be greatly appreciated! The link for the heli- T-REX 500E Super Combo KX017014 - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk RC Model Helicopter Specialists in ALIGN, E-Flight, Blade, Goblin, Synergy, ALeeS, Outrage, ELY-Q

Super Mod & DEAL KING!
Align birds are well made. Not the market winners anymore.. as far as designs and price.. but They are well built helis with part availability. Anything from align 250 to an align 800 if its all align kit.. with align elecronics is GOOD.. Now I personally dont have an align bird anymore, just because I wanted to break the monotony.. And get a bit different design and better quality kits.. but I would say if you like what you see, then this wont dissappoint. OFcourse, its a heli, it needs to be built right, and then you need to practice on a simulator first before you actually fly.. if you havent flown a heli before.

500E is a good trusted design.. Its flybarred. Its the basic stuff where I started flying too.. now the birds have gone flybarless.. and are easier to fly and setup for a beginner.. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a Flybarred bird, and the fact that its a mechanical and proven design.

If you can find a deal on it, I would recommend checking out their DFC series.. Like 500 PRO DFC. They are great helis and you wont need to upgrade a whole lot till you start doing some 3D.. (now the gyro is 3GX on it, and I am not the biggest fan, but again it works well for beginners.. extremely well)

If you are then also interested in opening up your options and looking at some other birds Here is a list to confuse you :D ( I mean.. help you .. :) )

Gaui X5
Synergy E5
Protos 500
Gaui X4 II
JR Vibe 500 E

etc etc

(no order)

There are many more birds in this size out there. THey are all mostly very agile and amazing for smack but are a bit heavier on the pocket and not recomended as a first.. :

Goblin 500
Miniature aircraft

etc etc..

But again if you like what you see in Align.. they are GREAT birds! :)

I first got into collective pitch helicopters with an Blade SR. WOW!!! Was that a mistake? I couldn't even hover that thing. I would crash and crash and crash over and over and over. Soon enough, I just took it to the park....hit the idle up and went full throttle (seriously, I did this, lol). I had the SR in the air for about 10 seconds and it just came crashing down. Now I'm using the Rx and the servo's from that heli on one of my scratch build planes, lol.

I still found myself wanting a helicopter and my obsession for helicopter flight was even more powerful. Went to the local hobby shop looking for a Blade 450. They were out of stock. Maybe a Trex 450? Nope...out of stock. What's that other heli, over there? Hmmm, an Align Trex 500e Super Combo....on sale even. I'll take it. I bought the heli, a battery, an Rx, and a really nice charger. The build was so much fun!!! It really is an awesome heli. Quite intimidating, even still today, but it really is much easier to fly than that crap SR, that I bought, and my 500 is also much easier to fly than my friend's 450. It's got a really cool sound when it's in the air and I've never regretted getting this heli.

My Align Trex 500 is the only 500 sized heli that I've ever flown but I will say this...if you do get this helicopter and you take your time and build it right....you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for your time/ reply, I made the same sort of mistake by getting the Trex 250 and that was when i found out that it was too hard to fly with it being so unstable and too damn fiddly to repair/ fix and now with your post and other peoples posts I am now certain to go for the trustworthy 500E, thanks again for your post and time!:welcoming:

Glad to help buddy! Just keep in mind...my word is not GOD, but my 500 is MUCH better than that SR that I had. Now I'm just working on getting my 500 setup with my new DX8. Very exciting!!!

Good luck man and I hope you share some pics or video of your new heli!!!

You can't go wrong with that 500. It was the market leader for a long time. There are many helis now of that size that have passed it by as Gaba mentioned, but for a first time cheaper big heli, its fantastic. Also the parts will be much easier to find than other helis.

I personally love MS Heli products even though they are limited to 2 sizes at the moment. I also have started looking at Synergy and Gaui since these are kits not to widely used on this site. I want to be different for the most part. I started with an EXI 450 Pro and got board with the design quickly so I upgraded. I saw my first Gaui late last year and was just amazed at how it could be handled and how it looked in the air, plus IRCHA makes it lucrative to consider as a contender. Synergy E5 is lucrative because of it's almost endless upgrades all they to a 700 size kit. So lots of home work and research.
