Have you calibrated your ESC ?

If Not.

Remove your blades.
Turn your Transmitter on .
Give it full throttle
Plug in the flight battery
After the ESC beeps, reduce the throttle to zero.

The ESC should now know the throttle Min & Max limits.

Unplug and re-plug the battery and test that all is OK before re-installing the blades.

I think that Donny may have gone AWOL, however I wonder if he was maybe using a DX6i Tx?

The DX6i always had an issue in that closed throttle and throttle hold did not give the same % of closed throttle. Thottle hold was 'more closed' so if your ESC was calibrated to see the throttle hold as the throttle closed position, when you released throttle hold the motor would spin even if the throttle stick was closed. You have to set the throttle hold throttle curve to +10% rather than zero.
Alternatively avoid the issue altogether and ditch normal mode. Set all your flight modes as 'flat-line' idle up curves and start and stop the motor using throttle hold.

He may have also been in IU1. Easy to do w/the DX6i that came w/RTF 450X. Don't ask how I now.
