Im going to tell a little about myself, hope I don't bore anyone. Im 63 year old disabled Vet. 80% disabled 100% unemployable. Thanks to the use of agent orange. I live in GODs country, back in the woods, with my wife of 43 years. We were blessed with three great children, twin girls and a son. Un fortunately my son past 1year ago Feb. Unexpected. Sleep apena took him from us. Not only was he my son, but my best friend. Two months after his loss. My wife found out she has cancer. So last year was not a good year for us.
Now to get back to the RC. I have a hexcopter, 3 hubsan quad copter for inside use, a lotus 350quad, a blade 350 QX quad, Bixler plane, one Bi plane home made, 3 foam board planes done from Mikes RC. Two DX8 TX (don't ask how this happened) Draggon link, FPV equipment never used, Fatshark goggles never used. I bought the equipment wanting to have something to do to get my mind off all the curve balls that life had tossed my way. Now I have found that my hands shake, and it might end my flying before I can really get to enjoy it. I have the most problem with the throttle. My thumb shakes and jerks the stick hard. It caused me to put the 350 QX into the ground two days ago. I was lucky, no damage. I would like to try and design a controller that would use control arms similar to the game controllers. This way I could wrap my hand around them and give me a better grip so the shakes would not stop me from flying. Anyone have any ideas how I could make this happen? I also have two CNC machines, To cut what ever, these where for a business for my son. Life can suck at times.

Hey Kason, Welcome to RCH! I'm really sorry to hear about your son and your wifes cancer. I do hope your wife is doing well.

The sticks on your Tx I believe use an M3 or M4 thread, so if you could tap out a longer piece of aluminum, that might work. I just don't know if you can get the tension in the springs strong enough to hold it up when you are not holding it.

Here about a year ago, I was a "thumber" as well. But I forced myself to become a "pincher" by working on the sim and playing with the mcpx and msr. The more I did it, the more natural it felt. And best of all, you have much more control. Now I know that pinching the sticks and gripping the sticks with your whole hand are two different things, but pinching your thumb and forefinger together might just ease the shaking in your thumb since it has something to grasp against. Just a thought though.

No matter the design, you come up with the idea, and we will help. If someone here comes up with an idea, again, we will help make it a reality. Flying can be a great stress reliever, but you have to enjoy it first!

Welcome Kason.
Have you considered a Radio Tray?
Then your hands are free to hold the sticks without having to support the radio as well.
Something like this.

This is a good idea, if I use a tray also it might just work. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Kason, sorry to hear about you recent misfortune, hopefully that is now behind you.

I had a bit of a problem with the Tx sticks especially the throttle, I got around it by going to a Neck Strap and changing from thumbing to pinching the sticks, if that hadn't worked I was going to try a Tx tray.

Hi Kason, sorry to hear about the difficult times you and your family have been through, very thought provoking. The Tx tray that Lee has shown is a cracker, I have been thinking of a tray for some time, I'm starting to really believe that resting your hands on the tray and pinching the sticks will help a lot of people, including myself with finesse at the controls. There seem to be at a reasonable price as well, worth a go in my opinion.

After reading all the support about the tray, I purchased one from Hobby King. I will let everyone know how it works out. I am not willing to give up the Hobby until I have exhausted all possibilities. Thanks to every one.
