600 Upgrading Trex-600 Esp To Fbl / Dfc

I read somewhere that for this, I need to replace the main rotor blades to FBL blades.

1) Is this correct?
2) Why, what is different?

Cheers

No need to replace the blades. FB blades are lighter than FBL and might make the heli more lively, but the difference is quite subtle so unlikely to be an issue

Hello Matt and Smoggie,

The GARTT is the one I ordered and waiting for, I tried to find a genuine Align but, there are none. I am a 75 years "Young" new helicopter pilot, no need or intention for "Lively" or anything else other than SCALE flying.

I am comming from many years of fixed wing RC and the members in my club tell me that my flying is boring.. I intend to stay that way.
I bought sometime ago a Bell-206 body for the Trex-600, this was the last full size I worked on during my Airforce service, many many years ago.

I am going to focus my time now in RC Helies mainly, hope to be able to start hovering at this point, while doing a daily Flight-Sim 10-15 minutes flights...

Cheers

With these conversation kits it comes with the head and everything, my only concern is if the main gear hole will be right. It is possible to use a different main gear (maybe from a 600e), then mesh the motor and main gear right.

Tarot is another company that makes parts for Align helis.

HI Matt,
I had recently an incident, ordered a new Swashplate set for the current FB setup, it didn't fit the shaft...
I will wait to get the GARTT and keep my fingers crossed.

I ordered a Spirit Pro FBL unit and a Spektrum DSMX SRXL2 Remote Receiver (SPM9747) but don't understand the setup channels. I understand the CH0,1,2,3 and 4 - but not clear:

1) Where to connect the ESC
2) The Remote receiver has a bind button, so - it seems there is no need for me to use a bing plug on the Spirit, or am I wrong?

You will need a bind plug to bind this fbl controller to your Tx. It needs to plug into the port on the fbl controller that says bind DSMX. The satellite receivers need to plug into the side of the fbl controller. The ESC needs to plug into the “throttle” port on the fbl controller. If using a separate BEC it needs to plug into the BEC port but I don’t think you’re using a separate BEC..

The Spirit Pro is a really nice fbl controller..

If you’re not using satellite receivers then there should be a different picture of how to plug in a standard receiver..

The Spirit Pro should come with a manual and there should be stuff on the internet. Search for wiring diagram for Spirit Pro..

Correction.. this is the wrong picture on how to hook up a standard receiver..

Usually ch1, ch2, ch3 are the swash plate servos..

ch4 is usually the rudder.. the manual should specify or the “software” to set this up should specify..

Check this Wiki.. it should have everything..

HI Matt,

Checked the Online manual, see image below - the same details as in the PDF manual.

In my setup, I am using my Spektrum Tx radio
The Spirit Pro device
And, a Spektrum DSMX SRXL2 Remote Receiver (SPM9747) - this will be plugged into the Primary port on the left of the image. This remote receiver has a Bind button, so no need for any bind plug.
I intend powering the Spirit through the ESC / Throttle cable - marked in the image in Orange.
Then - The BLUE line : Optional BEC (RUD) doing, Where does it go to?

Is my intended setup correct?
Will I need to purchase a 2nd Satellite remote receiver?

Cheers

Actually I think you have it right.

I’m not too familiar with the SPM9747 but it looks like a newer satellite receiver..

Yes, it will plug into the left (primary) port..

Because this is a 600 you should get a 2nd one..

The “optional” ports probably don’t need to be used..

The ESC goes to “throttle”..

Ch1, Ch2, Ch3 are the swashplate servos..

Ch4 is the rudder servo..

My bad for confusing all of this..

OK, no need to apologise, I am the one asking for help here..
Smoggie is suggesting to use : SPM4651t, so I have already purchased the SPM9747 remote receiver for primary.
In your opinion, should I use both?

Someone will likely correct me if I'm wrong... but it appears that the SPM9747 only provides additional telemetry only for receivers that do not already have that feature... in short it isn't a radio receiver. I got that impression by reading the manual and the fact that it has no external antennas.

So, the question remains - do I need to get the serial unit you suggested to make sure I can fly and not loose my model...

LOL... I'm not Smoggie ... I just explained some terms that I was a little familiar with despite not flying heli's.... but you may owe Smoggie an apology now since he knows what he's talking about... lolol

Hello Teachers,

My GARTT DFC replacement arrived. It fits mechanically not a problem, but :

1) The quality, is not exciting - in particular the plastic rod connectors, they don't have the "A" and come off too easy...
2) The 3 pushrods from the lower Swashplate to the servos came at a setting too short for a swahs levelling, considering that the elevator control can NOT be adjusted, the other two need to follow it.
3) In all the Align Trex 600 DFC manual I found, the length between the plastic connectors needs to be set to 15mm, but to get the swash level, I need to get to at least 23mm. Or am I looking at the wrong manual?
4) After installing the new unit in the machine, I have a vertical "Play" of 1mm which I am of course not happy about. Do you think I will need to find a Shim washer to prevent it?

Looking for some help please
Cheers

When doing these conversions the length of the main shaft may need to be adjusted. You used to be able to buy a range of different main shaft lengths for the 600 but most have been discontinued now. Lest time I put a non standard head on my own 600 I bought a long shaft and cut it down. I cant say if this is required in your case.

If there is axial play on the main shaft then if the shaft is the type with a locking collar that can slide down. But if the shaft has a built in shoulder then you need to shim out the play. Either way there should be no play.

The Align links may be able to be used if they are the correct size.

Not clear what you mean by built in shoulder. The bottom part of the shaft is of reduced diamater. There is an aluminium collar on the shaft up high, I didn't notice that it is possible to slide it down

Yes, I know I must eliminate the vertical / axial play

But, one question remains - what should be the initial push rods length? in the manuals I found, they all say 15mm between the plastick ends, but there is no way to level the swash plate with this length.

Cheers
