FBL Gyro Ikon Governor

I highly suggest using the governor in the ESC over the one in the gyro. The only governor I have setup on the gyro is a nitro governor.

What I know regarding GOVERNOR in IKON FBL unit is mentioned below.

GOVERNOR is used to have the rotor head speed constant without the "throttle input". Start with Throttle J3 and after that use the switch to have predefined RPM.

Items used in the setup are

1. HW ESC 60A V1

2. IKON FBL on Electric Heli 450size.

3. Hobbywing RPM Sensor

4. Futaba T16SZ

Step by step (ESC GOVERNOR IS USED). GOVERNOR on the IKON FBL is not used.

1. Programe the ESC, chose Governor Mode Low / High.

2. Connect the HW RPM Sensor to ESC / Motor any two wires. (RED wires)

3. Connect the other end of the HW RPM Sensor to IKON FBL in GOV. (check the polarity)

4. In the IKON software item # 12 input the Main gear ratio (Main gear teeth count 150 Motor pinion teeth count 13) and Tail gear ratio (Autorotation pulley teeth count 46 Tail pulley teeth count 11)

5. Pulses for rotation = 3 . I am using Hyperion HP-HS2221 3595 Motor. Magnet count is 6. So 6 /2 = 3.

5. in Governor Speeds : choose Motor is electric.

6. in the Transmitter use flat Throttle curve for speed 1,speed 2 and speed 3. NORMAL 30% , 60% and 80%.

Rest of the items if any, help needed.

Thanks.

Fair enough, I have never setup an electronic governor on the ikon so can't help. I follow the KISS method and setting it up in the HW is just easier and less of a chance of something going wrong. Hope someone can chime in and help out.

Using the hobby wing does not need a sensor to work. You setup gov sto and forget it.

In govsto mode you will set a 50% throttle curve, plug in, initialize, release throttle hold, spool up to mid stick, wait 30 seconds, hit throttle hold, unplug heli. Set your throttle output to desired head speed, plug back in and fly. No muss, no fuss.

In have not set this up in almost 4 years. That's how easy it is.

ESC Governor is using. still if we are not using the sensor how can we know the RPM reading in IKON FBL 2 programe. or no need to know the RPM.
Please see the photos. I am using HW ESC Version 1 and HW Program card with Governor Mode OFF/Low/High. There is NO Gov sto.
and also please see the attached PDF file which shows the IKON Programe item # 12.

If your using the esc as a governor the ikon has no need for the sensor. If your running a newer V3 or V4 hobbywing it has a sensor output wire that goes straight to the ikon. The only thing ikon would be used for at this point is telemetry and it doesn't support it natively.

Now you may need to set the esc up with your gearing prior to programming. I have not used the Hobby wing in almost 4 years as a governor. I have been using the vbar NEO. a bit more difficult to set up.

If you set up the HW as a governor, no you don't need the esc info in the ikon.

If you use the ikon then you do have to provide the info. You will need to.make sure the ikon will work with a v1 Hobby wing.

Your v1 HW may not have the features I was talking about like gov sto. I personally would go with a v4 60 amp. So much easier and a lot less fuss. V4 is a huge improvement over the v1.

HW V1 is working with IKON. HW V1 ESC has Gov OFF/ Low / High.

One question please. If we are using the GOVERNOR on the IKON, in ESC which setting should be used Gov OFF or Low/High.
