600 AR7210 nitro gov

I picked up a AR7210 and thinking of using it in my 600N specifically for the governor. Has anyone used the built in gov yet? I've never used a gov on a nitro. Thanks, T

I could have sworn I replied to this thread. Must have been dreaming lol. My apologies.

I have not actually set up a governor on my AR7200BX (same setup procedure) because I could not get a sensor to work. but it should be pretty straight forward with the help of the manual. If you get stuck, post up and we will help you out. ,

Thanks Tony, I've been reading the manual and seems easy enough. I'll get into it this week

So last night I decided to start on this. I removed the BeastX stand alone unit and installed the AR7210. Went though the setup fine. Got to step N where you activate the governor menu. I picked "nitro". All was well but I cant seem to pass the first test of a useable RPM signal. They say the status light should turn blue when the magnet passes the sensor, "Align sensor". I know that the sensor works well because this model has been flying with telemetry and the RPM's show up on my screen and seem accurate. I had to change the plug from JST to a standard servo plug in order to plug into the AUX2/RPM on the 7210. White, signal red, middle and black bottom. Any clue what I could be missing?? Thanks in advance, T

Update, got it sorted. black and red wires reversed. Passes the test now

Just wanted to update this post. After many weeks and 1 mishap :shhh:, I finally got to test out the governor on the AR7210. It worked surprisingly well. Held the RPM rock solid. I set it up on a aux channel and found that I had to back the Gov number in my DX9 way down to like 6 to get 1800 RPM. Very pleased with my first attempt at nitro gov setup...

That is some good news right there. Glad you got it working. Now all we need is a flight video :biggrin1:

G'day all.
Rather than start a new thread I thought I would pose my question here.
I have an AR7210BX all ready to go. I have a sensor signal and understand the functions of the unit.
However, it seems to me that Spektrum has gone out of it's way to produce a confusing manual with regard to the governor setup.
Please see the attached pic of the governor screen of my DX9.
Ignore the 'inhibit' on the governor line.
I want to achieve a head speed of say, 1800 rpm in stunt 1 & 2.
Governor off in normal mode and throttle hold.
What values do I enter here please?Governor.jpg ?

I have never once touched that menu in my DX9. I have always enabled the gyro in the gyro, and set my head speed using throttle curves and a little calculation that the manual should give you. It has been a very long time since I setup a nitro governor on a BX system though so I can't remember the exact steps. I do remember though that I didn't have to touch that menu.

I also don't recall that menu. I took a quick look at my DX9 and can even find that. How do you get to it and I can check what I have. I still have that nitro 600 I set up the gov on and it still works great. Even crashed it once last year. But I can't remember all the steps. I know it took me a while to get it to work tho....

Thanks Tony and fran11784

I am hoping to find someone who definitely knows the answer rather that a 'try this, try that' type of help.

Cheers

Well, if you are looking for how to use that menu, I'm about 95% sure you have to use a telemetry module on the model, and it uses that module to calculate the rpm and send that information to the receiver to adjust the throttle servo. Way more than needs to be done on newer gyros. Now days, you connect a sensor to the engine or fan, plug it into the gyro, and just set a gain value on channel 7 and call it done.

I don't have all of the equipment, and I doubt anyone else on this forum has all the equipment, to get that menu to work correctly. Sorry we couldn't help. But I can assure you, my reply and Fran's was not a "try this - try that" response. We told you exactly how we fly nitros with a governor with newer gyro's that can handle it. Have a good one.

Well look, its been 2 years since I did that setup and as mentioned I haven't had to touch it since, works great. I know the manual sucks and wasn't much help for me either. I'll tell you this, I have switch A set to turn to governor on and off. And I only have one value on my governor screen set to 8. The system holds 1800 really well. I do have a TM1100 on mine as well so I can see the RPM. I remember you can set it up with a separate channel to control the gov or use the flight mode if you don't have a extra channel. I used a separate channel, aux2. Sorry I cant help more I just cant remember all the steps.

Thanks fran11784
I have decided to get the heli flying without the governor and then start entering gov parameters in the Tx.
If I start with low figures and work up the worst that can happen is the governor will not engage. I can increase the numbers 'till it cuts in.
I'll try to remember to update this thread with the end result.
Cheers
