Howdy Cyclone 7, yeah my thoughts exactly.. Nice to see inside the ESC and see what's up...

Quick question: does the Hobbywing platinum V4s come with a location beeper if lost?
If not I was thinking about this Align unit. RCE-BL50X Brushless ESC HES50X01

I would like to match it up with a Scorpion 2520 3500kv motor...

It beeps consistently if there is no signal ie the Tx is not switched on, but I don't think that that qualifies it as having a 'location beeper'! Unable to comment about the Align ESC but I can say that the HW Platinum series is a quality product. I am very impressed with the HW build & performance - I think it is a case of 'you get what you pay for' :friendly_wink:

I'll also make sure I get the LCD programming box.
All I need to do now is find a strait 13T 3.5mm pinion gear.. Hard time finding it...

3.5mm pinion gears are quite readily available (helical & straight) as it is an Align shaft diameter. I have a couple of them that I ordered in not so long ago - 11, 12 & 13T

I guess I'm a little late to this party. If you have the option, go for the helical gears. They are stronger and quieter than the straight cut gears. They are 121 tooth on the main gear vs the 150 of the straight cut with the exact same diameter resulting in larger teeth. If you have already ordered though, no worries, the straight cut will do just fine, they just make a little whine especially if you don't get the mesh set just right all the way around.

I second what Tony has said about the helical gearing - I swapped over to helical from straight a while back and was immediately taken by how much quiter and smoother they run. I think helical is kinder on the motor and gear life due to the progressive mesh of the teeth rather than the abrupt one that comes from straight cut gears.

I'm sure I'll need help, but I don't loose sleep over it because I know you guys are out there...

Once you understand the different menu's, they are very simple to setup. After your first or second one, you can have an ESC setup and ready to program the governor (if using gov store which I suggest) in about 5 minutes. Then you just go outside with a flat 50% curve on a fully charged battery, let it run on the ground for about 20-30 seconds, adjust your curve back to what you want it at and you are done.

Its very easy to setup.

As for location beepers, no the hobbywing does not have one. The cherping the esc does comes from the motor. The esc sends signals to the motor that make the noises you here. if you want a location buzzer then you will need to add one to your system.

Personally I feel that its not really needed for a 450 class heli or bigger. If your flying it beyond line of sight and you live in the USA your breaking the law anyways.

I thought that when I read that the esc sends a beeping signal to the motor, it was a typo.
What, there's a beeper built in to these motors? Wow I just learned something again!

Oh man I need to keep an eye on that babee every mili-sec. It can't be flown in the blind for sure. :nono:
Anyway about a good location beeper.
I fly a lot over a field in the back of the house here. The field has trees covered in vines. It also has a lot of saw grass that's 7 to 8 feet high and nearly impassable. Not to mention the 7 inch centipedes and spiders the size of the palm of your hand. If she goes down, I need a loud beeper so I can go strait to it and get the heck out of there. Also the weather over here near the mountains can change in just a few minutes. Sometime when I go out and fly, the weather looks good so I go for it. Half way through the flight it starts raining. Then in 4 minutes it's ok to fly again. I need to retrieve it as fast as I can so what the heck I ordered this>>>>> Log In
I figure for $8.89 I have piece of mind...

Look around the multi rotor sites for a good buzzer. I saw one I think at tower hobbies. It ran around 32 USD.

Thanks boss, but the other was ordered already a week ago and is on the slow boat to Hawaii.
I need to figure out a way to wire up one of these things for my Blade 130S. If this tiny thing goes down in the field; It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack, ha!!…..:yahoo:

Ok guys, I now know which of the two (ESC or motor) failed... It was the ESC..
I got everything I ordered except the pinion gear today.
First thing I did was connect the new motor to the old ESC and boom! The motor acts the same as the old one did and the ESC begins to cook in about 6 or so seconds.

Next up, I need to go through the manuals and try to figure it all out. Fun, fun, fun!!
Standby for a mayday, ha!
I have a major hurricane headed strait for Hawaii so we are on alert. It's always something to slow me down; doe! :smashfreakB:

How are you guys doing down there? I heard about that hurricane, hope everything is okay! And keep us posted on the ESC setup.
