I finally got around to converting my alkaline pack to NiMh. I got the harness from hobby town and installation was easy. I used my stock wire from the Rx and soldered it onto the harness which I clipped the too short wire from. The switch is on/off with the off position being charge mode. The harness has an extra plug which is snapped into the holder in the top of the battery housing.

What's really nice is the charger for the easy start controller will charge this battery too. All I need to do is make an adapter.

So after installing the harness, I took to making an adapter so I can charge the battery with the charger for the easy start. I wanted to test the fit of the connector to the battery housing and to my dismay, it doesn't fit. Nowhere close to fitting. The thickness is kinda ok but the width is way to much. I guess I can take a piece of sand paper and whittle it down to make it work.

are you talking about that Tamiya plug? Man I hate those things... If not, post up a pic of the two ends you are trying to get to fit.

No it's the servo type connector. The female connector fits into the charging socket on the battery housing and you use a male connector to tamiya to do the charging. The plastic 'cover' that you snap onto the male connector to make it an official plug will not fit.

The harness plug installed looks like below. I got it to work but it took 5 minutes and a dremel to grind enough plastic from the edges without destroying it.

Oh okay, it's just a standard servo connector and you just use the end of a servo extension to charge it. Unless that is a futaba style connector, make sure the polarity if it is not marked somewhere that I can't see.

It does have a bevel on the inside but that's not the issue. It's just too wide. I'll file it down a little more so it isn't too hard to pull out. I don't want my wires pulling loose and shorting my battery.

I just gave up and bought the adapter from amazon. It's traxxas part number 3028.

It's really that my tamiya connector has some corrosion. I probably can get it to work but I'm lazy today.

This is a Tamiya connector. I thought you were talking about what was on the end of the starter battery. Or is that what you are talking about here? I'm lost lol.

its always good to know what plug end you have .. I made a squid long ago . but know im down to a 3 wire set for my squid. i use a futaba plug male like what is known as a standard new era rc plug and a set of alligator clips.and a deans. handle all my charging needs.ProTek RC "Squid" Multi Connector Charge Lead (w/Traxxas Connector) [PTK-5220] | Cars & Trucks

I got my adapter in the mail today. This one has much thinner walls on the black connector than my servo plugs. I'll be using it and if it breaks maybe my pin kit will work to fix it.
