Well didn't want to post anything till I flew this thing a few times. Picked up this kit from a club member. Yup. an old HK Assault 700. He had a Hobbywing 100 to go with it. (Its worth more then the kit:chuckles:) Boy I've read some horror stories but I wanted to see just how bad it could be. The kit was still in the box so I built it completely stock. Mainly thought I could perfect my autorotation's without fear of losing lots of $$. Hence the big skids, lol. I have to say, it fly's very well for 200 bucks... I must have stood 100 feet away on the first spool up...haha

Sounds like it's a good deal, and will remove any inhibitions doing those auto-rotates.
I have an Assault 450 that I bought for $50 just to get the Tail servo which was an almost new Align 650, when it arrived I was surprised at finish of the Head & Tail, I'm thinking of using it as a test bed to test out components that may or may not be faulty, like you I figure it owes me nothing so why not.

Yeah some things from hobbyking actually turn out to be really good, despite the bad reviews on a lot of their stuff. flew my quanum chaotic 400 size quad yesterday, Man!! That joker fly's like a dream. a serious dream. Part that's killing me now is. They had it on sale for $64.00 plus shipping. I'm soooo hurt! That includes a six channel orange transmitter with it. at that same price. Duuuuude!! I've got 2 1/8 nitro basher circus monster trucks for $77.00 each. didn't believe i was going to get them, but they showed up. Might be the last 2 before they were discontinued. 2 1/8 sabretooth bashers for $142.00 a piece. and the list goes on and on, lol.

Its true, as I looked this kit over I just don't get how they can sell it for 228 bucks. I got it for 200 with a HW100, no brainer. The frames are under 2mm thick and the gears look cheesy but the aluminum parts look exactly like Align. Makes me think how much money Align makes on their stuff...

I’m not sure there are any heli manufacturers making a pile of money out of selling helis at the current time. If there was I don’t think we would be seeing so many manufacturers going bust or pulling out of the RC hobby business.

I’d guess that the likes of the Assault can be sold so cheaply is because the manufacturer has no R&D costs (because it’s a copy), no distribution network to support along with the mark ups that importers and local retailers add, no sponsoring of events or pilots, no technical support etc etc.

Dino - Here's hoping some of the new people drawn in by the quads will discover there is much more to RC. It will take a while, but I think (hope) it will happen. (If the FAA doesn't require licensing to fly a paper airplane by then)
